Way too early observations
-caleb gilbert lookednvery good in a limited role
-romero is hitting it well and we will have to find a way to get him a little playing time backing up pap and some dh timethrough the non conference slate
-lochridge looks the part with the bat, he needs to find a way into this lineup....if kramer keeps struggling maybe 2nd base
-i like freeman alot...kid does everything pretty well. Just looks the part
-valek looked pretty good. His stuff is probably good for the first time or 2 through the order.
- no reason to leave any pitcher in too long, we should be pretty deep there.
-cincy pitching has no command of the plate

I think he'll be a very valuable middle relief guy if/when Smith or Bain come back.

Bain should be starting Wednesday, right?

Idk, probably so... I honestly don't know what is status is since the surgery to remove the bone spurs.

Kramer struggled big time at the plate. He has a great glove, but not sure how long that's going to hold him at 2nd.

Valek looked solid today. Romero really has a solid bat along with Lochridge. We need to find a way to get these guys to the plate.

I agree Josh, still think Bain or Smith would be better suited for the Sunday role. As seen today when Valek missed his spots he gets crushed...still he impressed me in other areas today.

I absolutely loved to see the young bats finally relax after the first two games and do simply what they've done their entire lives without stressing over the small stuff.

I do see Bain eventually taking over the Sunday role. Isn't Smith hurt or was hurt? Valek too me seems like a great midweek option.

Not sure how much rope Kramer gets at 2nd, he's going into his 3rd year & has been given an opportunity every yr. I'll cut him some slack for now due to his mouth injury, but he's had his chances & we need a lead off man who can get on base to start the game.

- don't think Dawson can hold a starting spot. He is lost at plate. Several times he was completely overmatched and Kd easily
- duplantis and freeman are gamers
- Fraley should have great year
- starting pitching should be great once smith is back

Deichman's swing looks like Mickey Mantles

It's just been soreness as of now, nothing structural. There's no way Mainieri is going to rush him into a starting spot because of it but it presents an option when he is back up to 100%. I think he'll pitch in the midweek game for an inning hopefully.

Robertson's walk-up song is atrocious. It isn't working. He needs to change it and maybe he'll perform better.

I like what I've seen of the young guys. Cincinnati isn't a great team but for a warmup series it wasn't bad.

ETA: Infield looks a bit shaky early on. Hope they get it together. Tough act to follow Bregs at short, I realize, but routine plays need to be made.

yea, i'm not impressed with Valek. in fact, he scares me. I just don't think he's SEC quality. I know it's only one game but 2 homers in one inning AND he just doesn't seem to have an out pitch.

Jessie Stalling impressed me a lot. the kid now has 3 pitches. he gave up one hit before he began to throw off speed but shut 'em down after that. this may sound crazy but the way his pitches looked yesterday I would try him in middle relief with the idea of moving him to a starter. I know nothing about his stamina tho.

the hitting ability of the club is just too hard for me to assess. yea, they looked great today but today cinci's pitchers were awful.

overall I think we have a club that is solid defensively with very good starting pitching and very deep bull pen (and good). once again, WE NEED A SUNDAY STARTER. how we compete in the SEC really depends on our hitting and, imo, it's just too early to tell how good we'll be.

I was only able to see some of game 1. Where in the field does Lochridge play when he's in? I have a feeling Kramer Robinson is going to be starting no matter what. At least for a while through pre-SEC slate. That's OK with me. Let's see how it plays out.

compared to last year I see your point but it's the first series of the year and we have new and very young guys everywhere. I guess solid is hard to define. I didn't notice any glaring weaknesses.
