Was that the correct call? I know that LSU hit the ball first, but is the recover team allowed to hit a player before 10 yards before somebody touches the ball?

they can hit the player whenever they want, but you cant touch the ball before it goes 10 yards or the receiving team touches it first

LSU didn't hit the ball first. Our player got hit before the ball got to him. That's kick catch interference.

So the call on the field was correct?

My understanding is that if the players makes a move towards the ball (like the LSU player did last night), they're fair game.

Definitely a weird play. Don't think I've ever seen that circumstance before.

Yea it was correct but I'm thinking because interference is one of those calls that can't be reversed using instant replay...that's if they treat it like pass interference. That's what I was thinking which is why I wasn't too upset with it after seeing the replay...I could be wrong though

Unless there is a rule in college different than the NFL, yes.

The entire point of kicking the ball on one or more bounces is to allow your team to go take out a few of the receiving players.

ESPN showed replay late last night and said officials clearly blew the call. Blue was hit by a NC player before the ball went 10 yards, which is a penalty.

why doesn't anyone point out the LSU player should NOT have been in the ten yard zone?

wrong...it was the right call. Once the ball hits the ground there is no interference, players get plowed all the time on onside kicks, the 10 yards is only for the ball and they didnt touch the ball until after LSU did

Ok so he doesn't step up and it goes in between him and the next guy. Good attitude.

the player crossed into the 10 yard area, which made him fair game.....otherwise, coaches would just send a player out to get hit in the 10 yard area before every onside kick, take the penalty, and squash the onside attempt

Unfortunately yes. If the ball touches the ground, anyone is fair game. LSU needed to have at least two blockers up front and let the ball go 10 yards. Then an LSU player has a better chance to recover the kick. Our guy tried to recover the ball before it went ten yards. If he had waited, the ball would've touched the UNC player that hit him. Then it would be illegal touching, LSU ball.
