The reason I ask is that our defense played like monsters against a pretty potent offense this past Saturday.
Against lesser offenses in the first four weeks, we had struggles and didn't seem to be taking the fight to our opponents.
Gotta think this is the case. They were only on the field for 17 minutes against Mizzou which bears largely on our offense not sucking arse.

I guess my point is I didn't realize people didn't think Les was micromanaging everyone and forced his philosophy on to them. He was the Head Coach.

No! He didn't. People who thought this were hearing what they wanted to hear. In his Milesism manner of speaking, he told all of us to go frick ourselves after the aTm game last season.

Miles was just a shitty coach. He tried to get his hands on the OL and meddle with what the OL coach did. He tried to give pointers to the QBs, he tried coaching defense to some extent as well. Dude's ego was fricking huge. He thought he had all the football knowledge in the world and that he shouldn't trust his position coaches.
The only coach anywhere near as stubborn as Miles would have to be Chief and even now I wonder if Miles was the one that wanted Beckwith at DE and Welter at MLB. Seeing what Chief is doing at A&M makes me think that there's no way he could've been that dumb.

Missouri was a bad team, yeah. But the LSU offense was more productive than ever. Ever. Missouri will win more games, they just couldn't go toe to toe with LSU.

Big difference between the two men. Saban saw his offensive philosophy had become dated, loosened the reins on Kiffen and allowed him to incorporate spread elements into the offense.
Miles despite mounting evidence to the contrary believed in his flawed vision to the very end. Hence why he's now looking for work.

This shite coming out is crazy to me. I always figured Les didn't do shite, just kicked back and collected a huge paycheck while allowing his assistants to do whatever they wanted.

Look at it this way. Let's assume all the assistant coaches have this free rein you seem to think is so wonderful. The OC decides that the first play will be a deep pass to the right. The line coach disagrees and he instructs the line to fire out zone blocking, while the running backs coach instructs his charges to run a jet sweep to the wide side, while the QB coach thinks that a boot leg to the short side is just dandy. The receivers coach goes into a snit because he really wants a bubble screen.
Sounds productive doesn't it? The job of a manager is to accept suggestions from subordinates and then do what he thinks is best for the situation.

its how we did it that has people encouraged. We did things on offense that helped open up our run game instead of slamming up against a wall until we eventually imposed our will on a much less talented opponent winning by a slim margin.

Our current predicament goes back to two pivotal seasons - 2008 and 2011. There isn't a doubt in my mind that 2008 ruined Miles's desire to throw the ball anymore than necessary. The wild success in 2011 gave Miles the confidence boost that his way would/could work and gave him no reason to change.
