I read the Rant every day, but hardly post so up/down arrows do not mean much to me. I also served in the military 22 years so I worry about more important $hit.

In 2013 Saban bitches to the officials to put one second back on the clock so Bama can attempt a field goal at the end of the Iron Bowl. Outcome is the infamous Kick Six, because his staff $hit the bed and didn't consider the kick might be returned. Piss poor planning on Saban's part.

Now in 2019 he bitches because officials put one second back on the clock so Auburn can attempt a field goal at the end of the half. His complaint is you can't get the kick off in one second if there is a live clock.

How in the hell can Bama attempt that kick in 2013, but Auburn can't in 2019? One second is one second, I don't give a $hit what year it is.

Also, just because your staff is too stupid to sniff out a potential trick play (Auburn runs punter out, but uses him as wide receiver) is no reason to say, "the play is unfair". It was a damn good deception plan and Saban fell for it.

Nick needs to quit $hitting his pants and whining, and take his arse whippings like a man.

Well, it was two different scenarios here.

In 2013, Saban's player ran out of bounds. Bama didn't deserve the kick at all, but since they were Bama, they got it and it backfired beautifully.

I wouldn't doubt if the SEC tries to implement a rule change now that their darling was burned by it.

one was a running clock and one was a stopped clock.

Alabama got out of bounds with 1 second left. Auburn was whistled down well after time expired not really the same.

Saban was duped and is a sore loser.

In 2013, the Bama player ran out of bounds stopping the clock. The clock would not restart until the ball was snapped.

The difference yesterday is that the player was tackled in-bounds after gaining and a first down and AU had no TO's remaining. The clock would start once the ball was set and ready to play signal/whistle was given.

Hate Saban's whining as well, but it was a completely different situation from a clock perspective.

What grinds me about situations like this is why do we change the way we call the game for the last second of the half or the game.

The clock never stops the instant someone goes down on a 1st down. The clock runs for a couple or seconds (or even longer) before they stop it. What makes the end of the half or game so special? Either you treat all 1st downs the same or shut up about it.

If that same play happens with 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter the clock runs for 2 or 3 seconds after the play before it stops and no one says anything.

And just think of where we would be today if we could get a play off with one second at Auburn a few years ago. I seem to remember LSU not being able to get a play off after having one second left on the clock.

I’m under the impression the offense has to be set at the LOS for one second (once the official puts the play live) so imo Nick has a legit complaint.
I ain’t mad though!

Downvoted both for your attention whoring intro as well as being objectively wrong. With only one second on the clock, they couldn’t spike it, and there’s no way the field goal unit could have run out there before the clock started again. I hate Alabama and Saban, but he was right to be pissed in that situation.

2013 was out of bounds, so the clock was stopped. 2019 was a tackle in bounds so clock would’ve been running as soon as the chains were moved. He has a legit gripe IMO

I mean he was right by rule. Whitlow should have hit the ground instead of fighting. By rule, the clock should have started when the whistle blew. There is not way you could get a play off.

I’m glad Bama lost. But Saban wasn’t wrong.

Ya, I think they should pass a rule to bar that sort of thing from happening. Either make it so it precludes a play or ban any substitution of players which would keep the FG team from getting on.

Replay shouldn't grant you the ability to pull something off that otherwise wouldn't have been possible if we can help it.

I'm sure there are probably other scenarios this may play out but definitely should plug this hole.

What does this even mean? Also, just how important are two Iron Bowl plays in the overall scheme of things?

Thanks for your service.

because no coach in his right mind will waste a timeout or challenge on a second or two that early in the game.
