for one minute, i took the time to compile some interesting data.

Saban had a great year in 2003...no denying that. He destroyed opponents to the tune of 29 points per game. LSU played 3 ranked opponents during the regular season.

Miles had a great year in 2007...he destroyed opponents by 25 points per game, while playing TWICE as many ranked regular season opponents.

In the two best regular season years of saban (2003 & 2004) he went 20-3....very impressive. He won by 23 points per game and lost by 14 points per game.

In the 2009 & 2010 seasons for Les Miles (not his best two, just these past two highly criticized seasons) miles is currently 16-4 and has a shot at equaling saban's BEST two years in terms of wins at 20-4. While the margin of victory is only 14 points of game, the margin of defeat is only 7 points per game. Also, this would be done while playing 9 ranked opponents compared to 7 for saban..which is not a big deal.

So, listen, I am not a huge miles supporter, but this is why i give the guy the benefit of the doubt. These two highly criticized years can equal saban's, not the best two of miles, but these highly criticized years. That being said, if he loses three games this year, fire his arse.

nope...i've defended miles all along...because unlilke most, my criteria is to just win baby....and as long as miles is doing that i don't care if he shows up in an ape outfit on gameday.

Your argument is a waste of time to anyone with an IQ above 90. I like Miles but he is not in Sabans game as a head coach.

That being said I bet Miles would be a lot more fun to go fishing with than Saban. No doubt Miles is probably a much better guy but not a better head coach.

That said, can I return to Saban's lap now?

and i might add, this is in response to all these dumbasses that say the program is in a nosedive since saban left....it's funny, the two most highly criticized years (even 2008 was not criticized as much b/c of young qb) may wind up equaling saban's best two at lsu.....that says a lot about the intelligence of this board.

There's a great story about Saban and one of the prominent LSU boosters inviting him on an offshore trip.

Suffice to say, it's not his thing.

so that being said, i think lsu has a great shot at beating bama next week in all honesty....that would mean miles took HIS players and beat Saban and HIS players....it would put them 2-2 head to head....and miles well ahead in comparing the miles and saban lsu records...but i guess scoop...wins/losses aren't the criteria you use.

I would add 2008 to that the "kids" will quickly point that year out to you. The "kids" which at 43 I guess I am a part of are extremely frustrated by the lack of offensive production and developement from the Quarterback position. I myself am even more disappointed in the fact that our Offensive line has been getting man handled at different levels once again all year. Yes we are 7-1, yes we appear to have improved in the running game, but we have gone backwards in the passing game, and November has been the month we have collapsed the past two seasons come back in a month and will see if you have the same support for Miles.

Anyone who can use the phrase 'benefit of the doubt' and Miles in the same sentence, and come up with something positive, needs to be on medication.

katy...it's like you see it...you see that wow, we are criticizing a guy that in 2009 and 2010 could equal the best two years that saban every had at lsu..(not the best two of miles, but his last two criticized years)...but then you resort to our offense, or this, or that...lmao......i should have put a disclaimer in there..not just kids...but older people who never develop wisdom and reasoning skills...

I know...how dare me give a guy that has won more than any other coach at lsu the benefit of the doubt....how dare me defend a guy that the rant would have you believe was in the midst of the worst times at lsu ever....despite the fact of being 3 games away from equaling what many consider the greatest two years ever...how dare me.

I would consider Saban's second best year as 2001. You know, the one where he took a team two years removed from a 3-8 record to the top of the SEC and a Sugar Bowl win. Not 2004.

okay, fine, then change the record from 20-3 to read 19-4...so miles could actually beat saban's two best years.....because saban lost 3 regular season games in 2001....the sec was just much weaker back then.

So let me get this straight. If you support Miles, and think he's a great coach and wonderful man, you are intelligent and mature.

If you think Miles is not very good, and believe he was successful for inheriting a gold mine, this makes you a kid?

I've seen this played out dozen's of times here and elsewhere. The threads are always much the same.

To me, bottom line...Miles good guy (at least compared to those in his profession as a whole) Saban A-hole.

But IMHO not really that close as to who the better coach is. Only an ever-shrinking percentage of LSU fans would still argue the point.

The records...if one can't understand they took over programs in totally different states of being then that's probably why one still thinks there's an argument.

And lost to Ole Miss by double digits, got crushed by florida and lost to Tenn. Dont get me wrong I had a TON of fun that year, but if Miles did that this board would still want to fire him despite winning the SEC. I mean some peoples honest dream season is to win the NC this year AND fire Miles-its ridiculous.
