The SEC is not going to allow LSU to win this game, think we should accept that fact now.

Steve Shaw Bama graduate is head of SEC refs. He hires and slates all referees into groups which work together all year. Also, why are penalty stats not listed on the SEC website?

They're listed on ESPN. Alabama has been flagged for two more penalties than LSU this season 54-52. This thread is sad. Lsu has a good football team that's capable of winning in Tuscaloosa. No need to search for an excuse this early.

Lookup "confirmation bias"

That's what this has become

Looking at how poor FU was all game and WKU was until the mid fourth quarter, I'm at a 10.

What to expect:

*The Gumps O-line will hold all day yet LSU will be the team penalized for holding. (likely on a big Fournette run)
*The Gumps will bump & hold WRs for more than five yards yet LSU will be called for PI on a lame, overthrown pass.
*The Gumps will get called for a personal foul but another flag will be thrown to fabricate an offset penalty.
*The ball will be routinely spotted in favor of the Gumps. By the end of the game LSU will lose 10-15 yards while the Gumps will gain unearned yardage. This will impact a few drives.

LSU needs to win big. If you keep it close you'll allow the SEC HQ to determine the outcome...and they'll damned well take advantage of the opportunity.

SEC HQ ---

Question for the participants ITT.

Do you see the bias as Pro Bama or Anti LSU?

It's often referenced about how the sec office just won't let Bama lose if the game is close. Chris Warner, as the creator of the saddest Facebook page I've ever seen...could you explain why Alabama was penalized 7 times for 64 yards Saturday in Tuscaloosa in a game they trailed with 4 minutes left..while Tennessee was penalized 6 times for only 30 yards and got away with at least one defensive pass interference.

How does that happen? Clearly the refs are biased for Alabama because Steve shaw went to Alabama and the sec offices are in Alabama. With all of this bias, why has Alabama lost the penalty battle in nearly every game this season? I'm just trying to understand

My concern with officiating in Tuscaloosa? 10 x 4qtrs + Tom Ritter -sighting divided by 1.

No, Risefromrubble, lookup "fan experiences." That's what has been created.

Meh. If Alabama doesn't score a touchdown in overtime last year, after a questionable personal foul penalty backed them up from the 1 yard line to the 16 yard line, then Bama fans would be the ones bitching about a bad personal foul call. The only difference in how the fouls are perceived are how each team and coaching staff responded to the foul in the plays immediately following.

Outside of the Peterson interception, which was an egregious error, this has been a well called football game in the last few years...in fact it's been called better than the average sec game in my opinion. Calls will be missed, it's college football. A player (lsu) getting flagged for getting chippy after a play..that happens weekly. A retaliation call is pretty likely to follow soon afterwards if the other side gets chippy (it did). The perception was always going to pend on what happened after those penalties. That's human nature

The Ritter crew conspiracy is another theory borne and enflamed on the Rant which has no basis in fact.

Anyone who doesn't think that we will have to overcome a 15-100 yard gap worth of penalties is either delusional, or a Bama fan.

I'm all aboard the "SEC has an agenda" train here, but let's not also forget that we're still an undisciplined team going into what will inevitably be one of the most hyped matchups of the season. Bama's also pretty sloppy this year with the rock so I have a feeling that we'll win the turnover battle.

If LSU can play somewhat disciplined and minimize the amount of stupidity (such as a helmet coming off on 3rd and 8 and the player chasing down the play to assist in a tackle a yard downfield), it's our game to lose. This game is going to be all about minimizing stupidity for both teams.

I have no faith in the refs. Still in awe after the no INT Peterson play.

No more concerned than any other game. Which is to say I'm not very concerned.

I do t buy the "they hate LSU, they want Bama to win" stuff.

So the statistics imply that Alabama is a more disciplined team?

No. Over the course of over a decade and multiple coaches and players, it implies that the team wearing the Crimson gear gets penalized less than the team wearing the purple and gold gear.

Unless you're suggesting "discipline" is not connected to the coach on the sidelines but something in the water on campus...?

Is that what you're suggesting...?

ETA:

FWIW, I'm not arguing in favor of some grand conspiracy here. But I did find it funny when someone in this thread suggested confirmation bias here. I agree, though I think that leans more towards the way SEC officials judge both programs over the course of an entire season more so than it represents the take of LSU fans. LSU fans can look at the actual numbers and show that, regardless of the players, quality of team, or coaches on the sidelines, since 2003 (and I'd bet my balls this trend goes back further but was only able to get the stats from 2003 and beyond) BAMA has been less penalized in total each and every season than LSU. Why? If this line has run through multiple coaching staffs and tons of players, SOMETHING has to account for why the team wearing gold lids get more penalties each and every season overall than the team wearing crimson ones.

And just because this does not necessarily show itself during the LSU-BAMA game does not make this yearly occurrence inconsequential. By being penalized more each year than our biggest rival, we are forced to overcome far more yardage losses than they are. It makes winning our games harder each week, whether this gap shows itself in the game between our programs or not.

The numbers are what they are. Does it not strike those of you who are trying your best not to jump on the conspiracy train as more than a statistical anomaly that LSU has not been less penalized in ANY season since 2003 (and possibly before that?) What in the holy hell could account for why LSU is ALWAYS more heavily penalized than our greatest rival...?
