We're out of the West race now. While it's still possible to tie for first by winning out and Alabama losing to Auburn, we'd lose all tiebreakers, since the only possible teams we could tie with are Alabama and Arkansas.

It's too early and there is way too much football left to be played for the teams in the West to look into all the different scenarios.

It's fun to think about but there is just a ton that's up in the air.

It may be a bit early, but the "Here's who to pull for in this other game" threads have shown up quite a bit today, especially with regard to the Bama/A&M game. I'll keep this updated as the path becomes more clear.

I'm not knocking you for doing it. Just throwing out that the season is still young and a lot can happen between now and the end of November.

Oh, I agree with you there. At this point, the only game that's been played between the teams at the top is Ole Miss/Bama, so still a long way to go with that, especially with all our top division games not happening until November.

It's too early for this.

Simple...

Top 4 control their own destiny. Bottom 3 do not.

After this weekend, precisely 3 will control their own destiny:

LSU
Ole Mess
Gump/farmer winner

Ed: oops, sorry gumps

I think one of either Tenn or State shocks the world and beats Bama, so this thread is going to be all over the place for a while.

Bama doesn't control their own destiny either. Even if they win out, they'd need Ole Miss to lose one more.

You want A&M to beat Bama. That way you can lose in Tuscaloosa and still hold all the cards.
You want Ole Miss to lose one more. That way you can lose in Oxford and still hold all the cards.
You can only lose one of those games (Bama/Miss). If we can get to A&M at LSU with the winner going to Atlanta, then that is ideal.

My personal opinion: I'd like to see A&M win their next 2 (Bama, @Ole Miss). That takes the pressure off of our trips to Tuscaloosa and Oxford (still have to win one of them), and makes A&M the only must-win game.

After looking through it again, there is a way for all three of A&M, Bama and Ole Miss to end up with 2 losses before we play them, but it's pretty unrealistic:

A&M loses to Bama and Ole Miss
Bama beats A&M, loses to Tennessee
Ole Miss beats A&M, loses to Auburn or Arkansas

I don't see A&M losing any of their other games before we play them, so that would be ideal if it were to happen. I can't see Bama and Ole Miss both following through with the losses we'd need from them though, so I'd say the best bet is for A&M to win their next two, to at least knock out Bama and Ole Miss.

Updated for last weekend. Unless Tennessee can pull it off somehow, our game against Bama will be a must-win. Also of note, the loser of A&M/Ole Miss will pick up a second SEC loss and effectively be eliminated from the West race.

Personally, I'd like to see A&M win this weekend. The winner of that one will still be a must-win game, and if I had to pick, I'm taking A&M. Pulling for Tennessee as well, but not counting on that at all.

Realistically at this point, bama is a must win and so is the winner of this week's Ole Miss/aTm game (they are both liable to lose another game but I don't want to bank on that). If we win those two games plus arkansas it's ours.

The reverse way of saying that is our only "freebee loss" we can take and still control our own destiny is to the loser of the Ole Mis/aTm game.

Arkansas already has 2 SEC losses (A&M and Bama), so a loss to them wouldn't kill us either. We could lose either to Arkansas or the A&M/Ole Miss loser and still control our own destiny.

Barring upsets, Bama and the A&M/Ole Miss winner will be must-wins. I'd rather have A&M at home as a must-win than Ole Miss in Oxford, if given the choice.

I agree, it's much better for us if A&M beats OM this weekend. A&M currently controls its own destiny in the west, so even if we beat Bama, the OM game (which is an away game) becomes winner-takes-all for Atlanta is OM wins all their other games.

If we have to face a must win game for Atlanta, I'd much prefer it was A&M at home rather than OM away.

But what matters most is Bama.
