What is holding this position back? Specifically in pass blocking situations.

The line played great. What are you bitching about?

When John McKay was head football coach at Southern Cal they had just been slaughtered by Notre Dame and a reporter asked him after the game, "What do you think of your team's execution tonight?"

McKay answered, "I'm in favor of it....."

Not exactly the best time to raise this question considering their performance Saturday.

That being said, I can't tell you what was different for the OL. They simply played better.

They did not pass protect well at all.

Missouri sucks.

What is the injury status with Clapp and Weatherby? The lunch with O thread was a food fight between posters, so no one said if O addressed the O Line health.

We have 4 guards playing G & T spots, and a Tackle playing Center.
Other than that, we're ok.

O insinuated Toby and Clapp would both be sidelined for awhile.

The O-line destroyed a pretty good defensive front Saturday. A bigger test awaits on Saturday, but the unit is coming together.

Plus, Etling can move around a bit, improvise a little — a play isn't guaranteed dead if the protection breaks down.

As a related aside....

I wonder if the new coach (assuming it is not CEO) will keep Grimes.

I have also wondered if Grimes will be kept, since the OL has not performed as well as many thought they would.

They were pretty good vs. Missouri, and Florida does have some starting DL who may not play this week, so we"ll see.

LSU is really young on the line, the guys aren't that great at pass blocking (yet. maybe with more live reps . . .), and the "best five" philosophy has been a failure at LSU. I really think we need to play the five best players at each position and prioritize the positions using the traditional thinking (left tackle first for right handed thrower, then right tackle, etc.).

I'm assuming Miles' plan was to always just play his game instead of gameplanning towards the weaknesses of his opponents. CEO had our Tigers ready to exploit Mizzo's weaknesses. Grimes will benefit (as will all the position coaches) from more time teaching in the film room

And best of all the opposing team knows that too!

Nope, not really.

Pocic -Sr

Malone- Jr

Boutte- Sr

Teuhema- RS So

Clapp- RS so

Dodd- Jr

One of the old favorite excuses of the rant. The reality is like someone said earlier... highly rated guys, but are almost all guards.

If Clapp is in fact out for Florida, the line could look something like this...Malone, Tehuma, Dodd,Boutee,Pocic....just a guess
