Yea i need to get back to work...

I'm not trying to make excuses. I question my support for Les all the time. But I'm an LSU fan, and I am trying to be objective and realistic unlike most on this board.

If you take one minute to be realistic, if it weren't for Saban's run which is unprecedented in modern college football, perception of Les would be a lot different. I'm not saying that we shouldn't strive for the success Bama has had. As my Bama friend says, "There is no hope being a Bama fan. Just expectation and disappointment." Sounds a lot like us LSU fans.

Yes, there are better coaches out there than Miles. Yes, he has screwed up plenty of times. I wanted him fired last week. But in hindsight, now was not the time to do it.

Let's face it, 9-9 in the SEC west over the last three years is not good enough. This division has gotten better, and no win is guaranteed anymore. Even for great and mighty Alabama, who lost to Ole Miss and nearly lost to Tenn. This is college football.

Les has shown that he can dig this team out of a hole in the past in 2008-2011.

You shouldn't be.

Recruiting isn't going to get any better than it has been - you are looking at the ceiling. And yet you've seen the actual output. They virtually had the NFL all stars 2-3 years ago and couldn't even put up 25 consistently. And that's before we talk about a confused D and special teams.

I'm saying that it's possible that recruiting could get worse under a new coach, but it seems close to impossible that the actual coaching wouldn't be a big improvement.

If the goal is to have LSU football perform better over the next 5 seasons, then retaining Miles is an indefensible abortion of a move.

I'm as far off the Miles bandwagon as you can get. We are gonna be stuck with this loon until he brings the football program down around him....then he'll retire.

Depends on if we can maintain the #1 recruiting class for 2016

I think Les knows the seat is hot. If he can get the #1 class, including a top flight QB prospect, then it may be worth it to keep him for another year. If we drop 3 or 4 next season he is gone, but at least we have the place stocked with talent for the next guy.

I probably am setting myself up for disappointment, but that's what you do as a die hard fan. You hope for best and enjoy the ride.

Hauling in the #1 recruiting class doesn't necessarily equate to production on the playing field. LSU fans should know this by now. Miles and staff can take a potential NFL first round draft pick and coach him back to the stone age. Player development has been a problem for years under Miles. What makes you think that's gonna change? Franks saw the writing on the wall. No QB with NFL aspirations will want to play in Les Miles' abortion of an offense.

This is a major point. Beside a good QB recruit or three to help us avoid this cycle again in three more years, we need to keep what could be a great Dline and LB haul in this class. Otherwise, it won't matter who the coach is.

Good read; well done. The best part is that Caterpillah will read it and have a stroke.

I am just being realistic. I admit I wanted Les replaced, but I don't necessarily think he can't right the ship IF he makes SERIOUS changes to staff and scheme.

- Replace Cam with a more innovative OC that uses more high percentage passing and gets athletes in space AND LET THEM RUN THE OFFENSE.
- Move Steele to LB coach and/or director of player personnel and get a real DC here that knows how to effectively coach a defense
- Ship Peveto to Mars on one of Elon Musks' rockets

nice long list of excuses there

Really important to have good ones otherwise you look responsible for what happened, better to point to other people or other events

It is the way the world is today, why would the Killer LSU - Clown be expected to be any different

You're right. I'd say consistent top ten recruiting classes are required. But you need to fill out positions of need, and we need QB, LB and Dline. If we can finish strong in the positions in this class, I like us going forward.

I really wanted a new coach to have one year of his own to leverage Fournette as a recruiting tool.

Nice post. It will get downvoted a lot on the Rant, but it is a nice, objective look imo.

eta

Peveto needs to be shipped off for sure. I say give Steele another year or two to fully implement his scheme and have the defense completely learn it. If the defense shits the bed again next year, he is not a good solution.

2005-lost to TN then reeled off 10 straight before running out of gas vs good UGA team in sec cg

2006-prob in title game if not for terrible calls AT AU.

2007-NC

2008-2009-just plain bad

2010-2013-had the one game here or there that would have put them in the game. Just didn't get it done.

2014-2015 - good but not great

2016-championship or bust

Coach Miles quit making up fake profiles to make the majority of us feel like you are a great coach.

Is it realistic that when you have a top 10 recruiting classes every year to expect to have a team that can break into the top 100 in passing?
