Supposed to be "the guy" @ mike since Minter wasn't getting it done. Now we're trying Hatcher to fill the void!

I doubt Randle plays Mike, esp. this yr. seems like he'll be at one of the outside spots. Welter, Baker and maybe Barrow would prob get a look there way before he would. and Hatch is at Sam primarily last I checked.

You're right. I am and so was he. Actually, to compare apples to apples I'd have to play for the team and not even just work for them. He was comparing experienced applicants and affirmative action to the situation with JJ and Mett.

Someone made a comment earlier about the players being behind JJ over Mett because he has been there with them and they have struggled together and bonded. I think this is the exact reason why Mett is 3rd string and nothing to do with talent. I also completely agree with it. Even if they are "good enough" either JJ or Lee should still start over Mett this next year. However, if like last year they aren't even "good enough" then I think Mett should get his shot.

"supposed to be the guy" - meaning when they were recruited/first came in.

The only way it wouldn't have been an open competition would have been if Mett hadn't been allowed to practice or play in the Spring scrimmage.

some actually thought Miles would state that "we have no starter, all are tied as the #3 QB and we're going to put them through a set of challenges to see who wins". That was never going to happen and would have been stupid...you must prepare the presumed #1, but make it clear to the other guys that the spot is their's if they can take it away.

was it ever said Randle was supposed to be the guy at Mike? and don't be so quick to jump off Minter yet, Shepp took a few yrs to become the player he was ad break in as a starter.

note my earlier post shoulda said "I doubt Randle plays Mike", not Minter.

Since he did both, it was an open competition.

So Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady are in open competitions for their job or are you saying they are the only 3 that take snaps in practice for their teams?

I think his confidence starting waning as the season progressed and he figured out that no matter how well he played, or how bad JJ played, Lee wouldn't be the starter.

You act like JJ finished the season as poorly as he played in midseason. Lee's PT went down b/c 1) he's not very good and 2) JJ ended the year playing well.

did you not watch him last year when he was pulled and lee was given playing time?

Honestly ... I've never seen another face from him during a game. Maybe that's just the way he looks?

He talked about the defensive backs longer than anything else and failed to mention Mathieu, who seemed outstanding to me last year as a non-redshirt freshman.

Anyone think that face is because he was upset with humself for how he was performing?

Open competition meant that JJ was the incumbent and either Mett or Lee has a chance to take it away and so far they haven't.

And in your stupid sig quote, JJ does get the edge in the experience part which is what I think he meant.

You have a 2+ year starter in the SEC no less.
A senior in which the light comes on more times than not.
Chemistry with the recievers, oline, and backs
Better athlete
A qb coach to finally help him on his much needed passing fundamentals.
All kinds of pros indicate that he has a strong arm(so no matteR how rocket armed Mett is, the need for more arm strength isn't needed.

The only thing Mett is beating JJ on is mechanics and accuracy(which is like most important to a passer) so I can see why he is not starting day one. That doesn't mean that he can't take the job during the season but c'mon people, the only time somebody new comes into a qb situation and takes the job from the starter before the season starts, is usually the all around the better player.

He doesn't have enough to take the job and since this is a great chance(stars aligning) to win it all, Miles is preparing who he thinks will best lead his team GAME ONE.

It was in reply to why he was named the starter.

I posted a rant earlier regarding Mett that got axed. Mett hasn't been applying himself academically. He has to get his grades up!
