I'd rather they quit all of the pregame fireworks that stress out the tiger than get rid of the tiger. Was a big part of gameday until Mike VI got scared of all of the explosions going off.

In 2017, taking a live tiger into a stadium with over 100k cheering isn't happening. It will be tough enough to get a tiger as it is.

When they introduced Mike VI at the 2007 Florida game, the place went bananas....

How short-sighted of you. I just want a damn tiger. Hate that he won't be in the stadium with us, but if this is what it takes to ensure other Big Cat Rescue Facilities donate us a new tiger like in the past, so be it. Having no Mike living on campus is NOT AN OPTION.

Sure, we are all a little bummed about losing the tradition. I would love to just let the Tiger decide if he likes going out on Saturdays.

At the same time, I fully understand the main reasons for the decision.

To me, the most important info that I got from the article was that the habitat will be upgraded in time for the new Tiger. This is what I have been hoping for since Mike's death. I feel a whole lot better about the improvements to the habitat than I feel bummed about the loss of tradition.

I don't understand why someone doesn't raise the money to build a nice big enclosure that could be brought into the stadium instead of that little cage. It could be made air conditioned with thick plexiglass material. That would make it much easier on Mike to come into the stadium.

You don't get it. If we want to keep a live tiger on campus, we have to give a little. This takes away the arguments of PETA and other groups. This is what they find most inhumane. Be glad we are getting Mike VII.

I can guarantee you that this policy was introduced and pushed by one person - King Alexander.

Last year, King was pushing hard to end the live tiger program entirely. He wanted to transform Mike's habitat into a "Bengal tiger memorial."

That "nice big enclosure" has to fit through Tiger Stadium's doors in order to make it inside, you know.

Unless you're suggesting we cut a whole new entryway into the stadium and remove some seating area in order to accommodate Mike's new conveyance. The current security staff can't even guard the current portals as is!

Bullchit

It's the pussification of America.

How does Bevo get to the game, How about the Colorado buffalo, or the Auburn Eagle? They manage, and we can too.

I agree. But I'm looking at the big picture. We all want another Mike on campus. This is how we get it done.

It's because of Alexander.

He wanted to terminate the live tiger program entirely. Shutting down the tradition of bringing Mike into the stadium was part of the compromise.

I'm not saying you're lying, but this is the first I've heard of F King wanting to end the tiger program.
