No Call on the Onsides Kick

Can't believe this isn't being discussed more. Maybe I missed something because I was watching the game at work and didn't have time to read every bit of the Closed Captioning....
Why wasn't that a penalty on UNC for interfering with the receiving team's ability to receive the kick or whatever?
ESPECIALLY with it being within the first ten yards.
Was it because they couldn't review a penalty?
I think they knew they blew that one and allowed a little more leeway on the potential PI on the last play of the game (if they thought it was - I didn't).

was a no call, seems like once a game LSU gets one.
announcers even said it (pro-UNC mind you)

said it was a gray area of the rules, something about how we advanced towards the ball and they were allowed to hit us even before we touched the ball.
think it is BS, the no call that is

you've always been able to have your first line of players slam into the receiving teams first line, thats the strategy
now, maybe that rule was changed recently and they blew it, idk
blue also went up about 2 yards, so that may have played a role

does anybody have the exact rule on that? Not something they heard somebody say. I would like to see the exact rule about that.

We put ourselves in that position where one bad call could have cost us the game. Thankfully, the makeup call on the last play of the game bailed us out.

If we had lost the game, positigers would have only talked about how screwed we were with that no call.

the man catching the ball was hit before he got the ball.
he was hit inside the 10 yard zone.
Therefore it was a mistake by UNC and should have been LSU's ball.

we touched it before it went 10 yds so it was live.
i think miles was arguing that he was blocked into the ball.
i think they were reviewing it to make sure who made first contact

AFTER he was hit, which was prior to the ball going 10 yds.

Oh yeah it was a big. Just as shifty as the PP Bama INT call.

You know, we should have NEVER been in THAT situation to begin with- NEVER and EVER. That game should have been put away in the 3rd quarter, but instead we pulled out the old Crowton playbook from the last 2 years and for whatever reason decided to let our defense be the offense AND the defense in the 2nd half. Nearly got us beat, and probably should have. Sad thing is that this staff will NOT learn anything from their mistakes and will do this crap time and time again, and that really does tick me off.

Yeah - I didn't think it was legal to just bowl over a guy. Blue was facing the ball - not squaring up against an opposing player. To me - That should have made a big difference.
Again emphasis on the "within the first ten yards" thing.

a. This protection terminates when the kick touches the ground, when any player of Team B muffs a scrimmage kick beyond the neutral zone, or when any player of Team B muffs a free kick in the field of play or in the end zone (Rule 6-5-1-a) (A.R. 6-4-1-IV).
The ball hit the ground so fair game

So your interpretation is that when the kicker snubs the ball right in front of his team that it's open season on the receiving team, regardless of the travel distance of the ball?

I think the onsides kick suprised the coaching staff

this is typically what teams do, esp with the high onside kicks. 1-2 guys just bowl into whomever on the receiving team are the first line
Posted on 9/5/10 at 12:09 pm to SlowFlowPro
the question is not whether a team can bowl into the players on an onside that has hit the ground already, the question is can they do it before the ball has travelled 10 yards or hit a guy within the 10 yards. I haven't seen anyone post the rule or state in any knowing manner.
