our linebackers were OK in 2011. The DLine and the Secondary were too good to not have a great defense.

I really hope Valentine gets it together. I can't remember where I heard/read it, but some in the program deemed him the best pro prospect on the team.

In 3-4 Defense MLB's Beckwith and Garret. OLB's Debo and Louis.

Those are the starters. In the rotation will be Alexander, Riley, and Feist. I read where there will be a couple conversions to LB as well, like Devin Voorhies S for sure and possibly M.J. Patterson DE.

But looking in the future,
Keion Joyner - OLB 6-3 225
Michael Divinity - OLB 6-2 200
Devin White - ATH 6-3 225
Daniel Bituli - OLB 6-3 220

We might pull one from the state of Alabama:
Ben Davis - OLB 6-4 225

Of course there are a handful others that will do just fine if any of these fall through, but I see us taking 5 LB's if we play the 3-4 enough. I still think it will be a mix of 4-3 and 3-4.

I agree that Beck is not better than Minter right now -I noticed early on how quietly good Minter was. But Beck totally changed the D when he took over the starting spot. I wouldn't go so far as to say that he could be better than, but I have high hopes he'll be as good as Minter.

Godchaux is clearly the top DT in the team. After that, it's mirky. Lac has played a lot, but wasn't too impressive this past season, after an impressive freshman year. I like Bain a lot, and he's cross training as both DT and DE. Gilmore is in good shape, hope it translates to the field.

Safety-Mills & Adams are NFL quality, and there are good back-ups with Jefferson & Co.
CB-we are DBU, need I say more

Safety should be very good. And Tre White is a stud. But our CB2 will be an inexperienced player and I expect some ups and downs at that spot. But we are solid at 3/4 DBs.

LB-will be the best as a unit in several years...

Seems like I've heard this the last few years. And no it won't. Beckwith is a stud. LL has been average for us, but hope he turns it up. Devi has flashed in limited PT and I think he's a break out stud for us. But still is light and limited PT.

DE-right now still unproven somewhat, but I have confidence Coach "O" will make us proud (could be dominant)

1 DE has legit experience, that's it. And Bower could be very good, but the other DE spot could be the weakest spot on the D.

Regardless, should be a very good D for us and hope we improve up front, especially DT and DE. I'm curious to see how Steele runs the D and how he uses personnel in both the 4 man front and 3 man front.

And anyone know how Dwayne Thomas rehab and recovery has been going? I know he's in a green jersey at practice, but is he participating? Recovery going well?

The coaches have already started we're remaining in a 4-3 base defense. We'll mix in just a little 3-4 (Chavis did this too), but at this point in Miles' career he isn't going to overhaul his entire roster.

This is not a knock on Beckwith, but I honestly think Clifton Garrett who is on the team with him will be better than Beckwith when its all said and done.
With that said, Beckwith is about to have a great year, no doubt, but we'll see if he can top Minters junior year. He has better size and speed than Minter, but Minter just had that killer instinct.

Minter was the best MLB of the decade imo. And eventhough, MLB arent a hot commodity in the draft, I was surprised to see Minter go so low in the draft. He's about to blossum with Arizona.

There honestly should be a thread comparing Beckwith and Minter.

2 down player, barely 6 ft, ran a 4.8, only had 1 standout yr in college. he got drafted around the right pick. there was hope he could get into the late 1st, but mid 2nd wasn't too bad.

1 dominant year, but was very good his sophmore year.

I guess I lose this argument. but if he is 2-3 inches taller and maybe a wee bit faster, he would get that first round.
I also didnt mean to put "so low" in draft. I was thinking he was a third rounder until I looked it up.

2012 was a better LB group than 2011 on the strength of Minter and Barrow alone IMO. had the Sam spot not had all its issues (Tahj missing most of the yr with the academic issue, Muncie and Kwon going out with injuries), they might have really been a memorable group.

Remember Montgomery was redshirted then hurt in the first game in 2010, then broke out in 2011. Neal, Clark, bower and tehuma all have had more pt than Montgomery did going into 2011.

Not sure I agree with this. He may prove that this year but up to this point I don't think so.

If Beckwith improves this could be true. But Minter in 2011 was much better than Beckwith of 2014

Lewis = Baker

I liked Baker, but I think Louis is underrated. He'll probably be better than Baker in 2015. In 2014 he was probably Baker's equal.

the good thing is that this year we will have experience at LB. everybody playing has been around for a couple of years and have played a ton.

in 2010, Baker quietly had the best season we've seen from an LSU OLB in a while. 90ish tackles, good bit of TFLs and sacks. he tailed off in 2011, not sure if it was lack of Shep or the DL and DBs making all the plays they did (those guys were kinda badass lol).

still, I don't think Louis can measure up to Baker's 2011, let alone his 2010. I think he's just a "guy". I'd rather see a Beckwith/ Debo/ Duke lineup, or even see if Garrett could play one of the outside spots. Louis just doesn't do anything for me. if he gets the start, I hope he balls, but I'll believe it when I see it.
