What i would like to know is if they are going to give LSU a rematch vs. Bama if they lose by 3 in TS this year.

I seriously doubt it.

Looks like LSU's poor showing in the NC game is having far reaching effects, from recruiting to media perception.

I laughed.

The standards that some people on this board have are hilarious. Not preseason #1? That's unacceptable.

Fair weather fans are unbearable.

USC is loaded this year and they should be PRESEASON number 1, BUT they stil have Eliane Kiffin as a coach and they will choke one away, hopefully to us in the National Championship.

That's a tad dramatic

Doesn't matter what LSU would have done in the NC game, win or lose, USC would be preseason #1 according to ESPN.

Duly noted that the ones insisting that this is much ado about nothing are the exact bunch that thought LM picked the right QB to lead us through the demise of our season. So this suggests their opinions are worth less than what we paid for them.

News? Perception? It's amazing that out of 120 teams the Media will still take turns between pumping USC, theOSU, and Bama. LSU and Oregon are still trying to knock out the limping Big12 programs Texas and Oklahoma from the next tier. Given recent Big12 W/L records it appears to take a long time to move the needle.

On 1/9 LSU lost a shot at separating themselves, if only temporarily, from the rest of the second tier teams in the FBS hierarchy. We were building strong (positive) media attention all year until the stumble. The good news is we get another shot to earn a reputation as a consistent winner this year.

So basically he found the differentitors in moving LSU from 1 to 3 is the freshman class? Somehow I don't see it going down like that.

Are you really making the case that not being ranked #1 in February is a big deal? Really?

I didn't say that. I just thought it interesting that JJ's family and friends were the ones jumping all over the OP, largely because he suggested that the showing by our offensive offense on 1/9/2012 might have affected some's perception of our program. And I believe there is some truth to that.

I could care less about the media kissing USC's arse. That's old news.

I sure would like to see how Bama's defense could handle West Virginia's offense.

I swear Alabama could lose their entire team, and they would still be ranked either number 1 or 2. Let's let the season play out.

This is the biggest knock of the rankings. It isn't a suprise, unexpected or even a reach to have USC #1 but having Bama #2 is the part that is pure baseless. They lost a ton on defense and their best player and we return much more of our core team. It still doesn't make a difference nor is putting Bama #2 a reach but he even leaves the caveat that Bama could look a lot like the last team to defend a title. Last I checked that team lost 3 games. It's pure speculation and meaningless. He is ranking based purely on perception which is all the rankings this early or preseason are based on. If we win our games we'll be playing for the title. If not then we won't.
