To start, I'd imagine that the 70 year old couple has been going to games for a good 20 years, at least. They are fully aware of the policy. I'm certain that if the game was fully sold out and all seats were taken, they would ask a marshal to remove said people.
These people probably have more important things to worry about than sitting 5 seats away from their season ticket location, which is why they don't ask them to move.
I've been going to games (20+ a season) as a student for 5 years now. I've been drunk, been with drunk friends, been sober and seen drunk students and not ONCE have I seen them get into a verbal incident with a season ticket holder over SRO tickets.
Students at Baseball games =/= students at Football games.

Friday night game: maybe half have been drinking in some capacity (i.e. a beer or two.) very few are "drunk".
Any other game: very few...

a lot
not necessarily drunk but most students I know at least have a few drinks beforehand, especially Friday nights games The SS is in the 201 and 101, the last sections in right field. I believe that's about 150 seats. Any student tickets past those 150 are standing room only.
And when there's always a good bit of open seats, how can you get upset about students moving to seats closer to home plate?

Look its not a hard concept.. I move alot during the season.. I go to the games and sit where I am supposed to sit and after the 3rd inning any open seat is fair game. I just dont like when I see prior to the game a group stake claim on a section. Maybe I just see this as a no manors sort of thing. I went to many games as a student but I dotn recall ever having SRO seating and that was during the 90s.

Im not against SRO tickets.. only that if you have a SRO ticket you dont grab a seat the second you enter the stadium. Like I said you should wait until 1 inning min (3rd is my rule)is over before grabbing a seat.. I have been to many games where I bought a GA ticket (non student) but I wasnt able to get that ticket until after a certain inning. I think the same should apply,

No, what I'm saying is all of those championships brought more fans of the team, which led to more students and regular fans wanting to come to games in the late 90s and early 2000s....that's why they sell GA tickets now

i am a season ticket holder in section 213 and so far this season, i am amazed at how many grandstand season ticket holders are not showing up at all for games ... i think the SRO tix are the best deal out there ... shite .. for $10, you can sit in the gold seats and then for the last three innings you can move down to the purple seats if you want ..

I must have missed all those excited students going to the games in the early 2000s when there were only 600-700 of us in the stands. Hell last year I was at a game with 700 in the stands.
Look I understand why they sell GA and SRO tickets and I applaud it.. I just dont think that ticket entitles you to sit where ever you please the second you step foot in the stadium. Stand up for 1-2 innings at least and then find a seat where someone didnt show up. Thats fine. I missed this unwritten rule that SRO meant first come first serve on any seat. Thats fine when its 700 people at the game in the middle of the week but its not cool on a Friday night game when the stadium will be at 90%+ capacity.

And before anyone says just ask them to move.. Think about what I said earlier.. You may be sitting in a seat because someone else is in your seat. You are asked to move then you have to ask someone else to move etc.. Now you have a whole fricking section playing musical chairs trying to find the SRO tickets. This is what happend at that Tulane game that got out of hand and heated.

I understand your viewpoint, but the ticket says nothing about waiting until a particular time to find a seat.

There isn't a rule like that, I would bet over 99% of people would move without a problem if the season ticket holder shows up. Its really not a big deal for everyone to act like an adultin this situation. It happens almost all the time.

Its simple, don't do this the 1st time, go to your seats and be a man. The people that decide to just "sit somewhere else" are where the problem starts.

there are two really good places to stand along both the 3rd base and 1st base lines next to the steps ... don't sit in a seat in the first couple of innings .. with the goofy way traffic and parking is right now at the box .. it is very possible that seat holder is running late .. 3rd inning onward .. about an hour into the game .. they are prolly not coming .. ALL seats in the grandstand are sold ... there is someone out there that holds a ticket to that seat ..

Thats what I thought until a Tulane fan was inserted into the situation.. Seriously what happend then was 2 fatasses took up me and my friends seats(thank god the new stadium seats are not as narrow) this caused me and my friend to have to sit in someone elses seats.. They showed up and sat in someone elses seat.. This happened until the entire section was full. Then low and behold one fricking drunk tulane fan showed up and started yelling at two girls to get out of his seats. So they had to ask for the people to move out of their seats and so forth. People were getting pissed because we were missing the game moving around Finally my friend and I sat in the isle. All this because 2 fat asses in narrow stands..

i've been a season ticket holder now for 17 years and have never once seen that situation get heated ... in our section .. we all police it for each other pretty much ... basically if the ticket holder shows up and the person in the seat questions it, we will just tell them that is HIS seat .. it never gets ugly ..

I do have to admit after sitting in the grandstands last friday night, i was on the last row, and when I got up to use the bathroom, and saw all the people standing right behind my seat, that it was layed out well. You can stand up right behind the grandstand seating and see everything.
