Need help settling this bet - Matt Mauck related

Matt Mauck left LSU after the 2003 NC game. He was a junior at that time.
From what i understand, he could have come back for his senior year but chose not to (something about him wanting to go to med school etc, and ended up getting drafted).
My friend says he was not eligible to come back and thus had to leave, did not have a choice.
Appreciate the feedback.

He left early cause he was like 26 or so when he was a Jr.

He didn't leave early to become a dentist which he ultimately became. He left early to try his hand in the NFL.

He didn't leave early for Dental school - he played in the NFL - he was a backup QB in Denver and Tennessee- he's one of the team dentists for the Denver Broncos.

not sure that really fits Mauck. Mauck was pretty turnover-prone, esp in games against ranked teams. he was good at shaking off his mistakes and making plays late though.

Great guy.
Went to LSU's football camp. The first day, everyone was supposed to meet at Tiger Stadium. I got dropped off late and went into the wrong entrance and was extremely confused as to where to go. Matt Mauck spotted me and brought me to where I was supposed to be. The whole time asking me about where I was from, what position I played, etc. When we got to where everyone else was having height and weight taken, one of the coaches saw us and was giving me the tough guy routine asking why I was late and why I was coming from the wrong direction. Matt just laughed and pulled me out of that coach's line and put me in another one.

He didn't leave early for Dental school - he played in the NFL - he was a backup QB in Denver and Tennessee- he's one of the team dentists for the Denver Broncos
this, well said, he made 3 NFL rosters and had he made one more for even a game he would have gotten an NFL pension, GREAT leader and man and in typical LSU admin fashion he wanted to go to LSU dental school and they turned him down..no lie...his grades and test scores were fine, but the past Admin there (dental school) was anti athletics...what a joke...but yes, while he long was planning to go to dental school he chose an NFL career..as for the NS story, who knows....

Don't know where you heard that story because Mauck was initially supposed to be a part of my class at LSU Dental School, I saw his name on the roster. I also saw his name on the roster the subsequent year as well. I have no idea what happened, but his name was on the roster of students
