Had a speech class with him, Donnie Jones, and Adrian Mayes. He never missed a class and the other two missed 75% of them. Always super friendly and really nice. Highlight of that class was Adrian Mayes giving an instructional speech on how to RAP!

Cue the story of saban pulling him and mike clayton into a private room at the dome 20 minutes after the game wanting to know their decisions
you heard this too??
I heard it from a player on the 03 team.

Last minute decommit from Nebraska - flipped on the morning of signing day - that was when I first started following recruiting fairly closely.

as for the NS story, who knows....
in the Ole War Skule movie, Matt Mauck himself says that Saban pulled him aside 20 minutes after to ask abt his decision.

Me too. If you were on TigerRoar's website, the EvilTwins and "Yoda" were hyping up a big boom and this was apparently it.

I was - I was Ace Midnight (or some derivative thereof) back then - on the LSU AOL board before that

Saban knew the offense would struggle in 2004 without Mauck, and 20 min is plenty long enough to celebrate.

He went the Billy Cannon route in his own way minus laundering money or whatever he did.

anyone notice how saban loves game managers.
Guys that will make all the routine throws and not lose you games.
Mauck
Flynn - pretty sure he recruited him to lsu
John Parker-wilson
AJ McCarron
Saban also recruited and was starting Jamarcus who was anything but a game manager. Rohan Davey was not a game manager. He also did not recruit or coach Sarah Jessica Parker Wilson.

he did not recruit Rohan Davey - was DiNardo.

Mauck was denied admission to LSU dental school...love to see any evidence to the contrary because I know first hand (saw it) he was not admitted (at least for year one, possible he was as a transfer student, but doubt this)...period...so to the poster who said Muack was on "the class list" ..really? if he was in Colorado at Univ of Denver why would he be on a LSU class list???

Slightly off topic but Matt Mauck is a stud.
How many people in their post HS lifetime will:
1) Play 3 years of minor league baseball
2) Become LSU's all time passing TD leader and lead his team to an NC
3) Play 4 seasons in the NFL
4) Earn a Dental Degree
Matt Mauck is the epitome of hard work and living the American Dream.

Does any other LSU QB besides Mauck have 2 SEC Championships to their credit? I realize he came into the '01 game b/c Ro was injured but since he was the MVP of the game, I think he should get credit for it.

Since Tommy Hodson was not on the 1986 SEC Champ roster you will have to go WAY Back here for the last LSU QB to have 2 SEC Titles. LSU won the SEC in 1988 and Mickey Guidry was gone by that point
I posted a thread earlier this season that Mettenberger was the first LSU starting QB to beat Auburn in consecutive seasons since the 1938-1939 seasons

this is TOO EASY, Hodson was not only on the 1986 roster he started every game...as a frosh (rs) he lead us over 5th ranked A&M....

Don't know if he was denied admission to LSU Dental school but:
D'Amico and Mauck, DDS,

Tommy Hodson, I'm pretty sure. 1986, 1988

this absolutely couldn't be further from the truth. I was in Dental School at the time, and the Dean of Admissions(Dr Jim Weir) was VERY, VERY symapthetic to college athletes, and would let them in with significantly lower GPAs and test scores than the regular guys. I don't necessarily disagree with him either--there is certainly a hardship as an athlete with regards to time devoted to studying.
