I think this team has the POTENTIAL to be one of the best teams we have fielded for quite a while. the team seems very balanced for a change.

1. DEFENSE. frankly, I was disappointed in our defense a number of games last year. it not only failed to maintain the lead against notre dame but it gave up 37 points to MSU and did not dominate Troy(I know, Aranda is sacred but I call 'em like I see 'em). this year, however, I think our front 7 will be one of the best in college football and we have talent in the secondary. only one spot lacks some experience and that ain't too bad. I think we take a forward stride and keep this team in every game.

2.SPECIAL TEAMS: well, we have a coach and hopefully a kicker. other than the auburn game last year our kicker(s) were awful. I expect very solid special team play; therefore, an improvement.

3.OFFENSE: I think this will be the most balanced offense we've had in a long while; it's just going to take some time to develop. while we do not have a Hill, Fournette or Guice, we have some quality backs. we have a stable of outstanding WR's and a good WR coach; ditto for TE's. AND, we now have a QB that is capable of putting it all together. provided, that is, our OL can get healthy and get sorted out and eventually gel. the center position is concerning and so is the RT to an extent. I think the talent is there and so is the coaching but they have to grow up fast with Miami and Auburn being 2 of the first three games we play. this offense will improve all season and will be very good by years end.

our schedule will be very difficult this year but that also means a fans delight. I expect some monumental games that will be fun to watch and hopefully, we can start filling the stadium again bringing back some excitement we've lost since 2014. in some respects, being competitive and having an exciting team is as important as the record. esp. if the fans see improvement and there is hope for further improvement for the next year. I am tired of boring games, stagnant offenses and in game coaching miscues.

precise pre season record predictions are mostly bunk. this team will be 8-4 at worst and 11-1 at best.

LSU has lost 4 games in the regular season only THREE times since 2001.

2002
2008
2014

All of those teams had disasters at QB and very subpar defense by LSU standards.

If O goes 8-4 with a loaded Aranda D and an Urban Meyer trained fourth year player at QB he should be fricking toast.

Period.

8-4 is still the ceiling for this team.

Until it's proven that the coaches know what they are doing, my optimism is tempered despite Burrow.

I somehow was hoping this would not be an anti O (or pro O) discussion. games against top competitors often hinge on one or two plays, a timely mistake or a timely break from an official. I mentioned the WR coach, OL coach and special team coach because they are new. I am merely commenting on the talent of each position of players relative to what we've had since '13.

I disagree that 8-4 is their "ceiling". it may end up being their record but I think they have the talent to be better than that, despite the toughest schedule I can remember. I think MSU, Bama, Auburn and Georgia are all playoff contenders and Miami may be.

8-4 is unacceptable. 10-2 is as low as I'm willing to accept.

Over a 4 year span I expect the average wins to be 10 regular season games. Also in that 4 year span, an average of 1 SEC championship and one playoff berth.

An 8-4 season should be very rare, and should only be the result of a perfect storm of bad luck. I'm talking tough schedule, full of injuries, with a young team.

I feel those expectations are realistic, and should never be lowered. This goes for whoever the coach is.

Hard to get with O living rent free in so many posters’ heads.

Nothing anti O about anything I said.

I’m not expecting an 8-4 season at all. I’ve been one of the biggest fans of this Burrow signing. It is a paradigm shifting acquisition for this program and we are all finally in a position to see the QB struggles that have haunted the program come to an end.

There is no negativity coming from me at all. 2018 is going to be a lot of fun

oh, I certainly do. remember, we played bama twice. I think our regular season schedule is just as tough this year (Miami instead of Oregon) with MSU and maybe Auburn being better this year. I can't remember our other tough OOC opponent that year. west Virginia? if so, the aggies will probably be as good as they were.

but really, we're spitting hairs; both years were very tough schedules. we got fricked out of a NC. Miles and his big mouth; we got the breaks in the first bama game and he had to say "it would be an honor to play that team again". he planted the damn seed that got him buried.

Georgia will be good.
Alabama will be good.
Auburn will be good.

2 of those 3 are at home. I'll take winning 1, as long as no other game is lost this season.

Miss St, Miami, and Florida, I don't want to hear excuses about.

Miami is overrated. Florida is not in a better situation than LSU. Mississippi State is Mississippi State. Losing to them is never acceptable.

the aggies arent gonna win a big time conf nor are they going to make a bcs type bowl. stop with that nonsense. our 2018 schedule is not as hard as 2011.

miami will not win their conf and play in a bcs type bowl like Oregon.

Or 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014??

The talk about this schedule is absurd.

We play three really good teams, two of which are at home, and a neutral site game against an overhyped team that has pretty much the same issues that we do.

MSU should be decent but going through a coaching change, has a good QB coming off a major injury, went 4-4 in the SEC last year, and is playing in Tiger Stadium. If our team isn’t ready to make up for the historic embarrassment they suffered through last year at their hands then there are issues within this program that are irreversible under the current regime.

The rest of the SEC is in absolute rebuild mode with new coaching staffs coming into rosters that are far worse off than the one O walked into eighteen months ago.

The conference schedule will not get any easier going forward, as all of the rebuilding programs are sparing no expense to reverse their fortunes quickly.

With basically a senior QB groomed under a QB guru and a loaded defense now is the time to make the leap to 10-2 and a NY6 Bowl game, positioning us for a playoff run in 2019.

The cards will never be stacked more in our favor than they are ready right now.

If we match Miles record in his second year, I assume that qualifies "O" to get a pay raise equal to Miles and an automatic extension after each season? After all Miles didn't leave him a JR or Flynn quality QB.

I see no reason not to be optimistic about the season. Like Grandad, I'm on the train.
