Just curious if anyone had any insight into the below comments. Guess I missed something. Thanks!

According to NFL Draft insider Tony Pauline, LSU's coaches are not giving LSU DE Sam Montgomery a "ringing endorsement" to NFL teams.
College coaches -- especially assistants -- are typically brutally honest with NFL clubs, and it was no secret that Montgomery wasn't beloved by LSU's staff. A projected second-day draft pick, Montgomery is a base 4-3 end. His Tigers bookend, Barkevious Mingo, is expected to be a 3-4 outside 'backer in the pros.

I cannot imagine Miles doing that to any player that plays for him. The goal of every coach is to have their guys eventually get drafted as high as possible. 2 reasons....first having a player go high makes Miles resume more impressive, and two....it makes his program look good for incoming recruits. Plus I believe Miles has too much class to rip a player like Montgomery or anyone representing LSU.

Why would NFL scouts give a shite about guys who aren't eligible to be drafted?

Why do college coaches look at juniors and sophomores in high school?

This

He won't even fire assistant coaches that deserve it. He helps them find another job.

Those guys have more time to mature. No sense in throwing guys like Austin, Eugene and Freak under the bus now. That stigma will last even if they shed the bad habits.

Plus, those guys still have to play for you. You aren't cutting them.

True, but they all have dreams of playing in the NFL one day. This was a wake up call and motivational tool to these players that they needed to work harder in order to fulfill their potential and reach their goals.

Wait....what? This was definitely a secret. This is driving me nuts that something like this is all of a sudden coming out. I'm fine with them telling the truth, but I can't imagine it's this bad.

It doesn't say anything about Miles not giving a ringing endorsement. Sounds like the assistants are the ones being brutally honest. We would people assume its Les and not Chief?

exactly, and this is why they're honest with the NFL guys, they don't want future players to be discounted because they have a reputation for not being forthright and honest in the past.

I don't like it. As much love as Montgomery has giving LSU, what could he have possibly done to piss off the coaches. I thought he was well liked? Doesn't seem right. We have never heard about Sam being a problem before. Maybe he played around too much, but come on.

Remember how he didn't start the first game this season? Don't think he played until the second half, and of course Les gave no info as to why. I doubt Sam failed drug tests but clearly something behaviorally related was going on.

They theoretically could've been giving lavar edwards, the senior DE, the start and some playing time before putting Montgomery in. That being said, I have always wondered about that myself.

If a player consistently misses work outs, is regularly late to team activities and has a tendency to loaf and not be a good example to the younger guys... I have no problem with any coach, especially an assistant or say Moffitt, telling it like it is to a NFL scout.

Is it possible this is coming out again based on the sign in the link provided by tlsu15. Maybe things were slow so they brought this back up again. I want to say Miles addressed the sign at some point this past season and said it was for the teams eyes only and that things had improved for some on the list. I want to say they mentioned Sam specifically. I could be wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if this was the source of the story.

Montgomery is a slacker and underachiever at LSU. Great talent but simply did not show up in some games. Missed several starts due to discipline and was so overrated.

Knowing Miles I doubt he badmouthed Sam but was not perhaps "ringing " in his endorsement. Chavis will tell you how it is as will Moffatt.

3 to 4th rounder...pros hate guys like this that are not leaders or coachable with poor worth ethics. They sign a big contract, loaf and do not get serious about their game until contract year.

Mingo hustled every play as did Minter. I would pass on Sam. Another Tyson Jackson type...

Because anything negative is always attributed to Miles by the Rant.

With regards to the lack of endorsement by the assistants, tif true that Montgomery had some issues (discipline, loafing, etc), they have more to lose than gain by giving a "ringing endorsement". Coaching is a big fraternaty ... giving a false endorsement can be career suicide for these guys.
