You would be surprised what an ex football player can make. I knew a former OL that could have gone pro but hurt his knee and didn’t get drafted. He got a job with a certain construction company making 150K per year.

Just charge it to the job then throw in a few change orders baw

College pitching is what was really brutal. How many times did he get beaned? Like 50+?

He could narket himself as the toughest player in pro ball!

This guy has some really insightful videos on Minor and Major League Baseball.
MiLB is an incredibly tough lifestyle.

This is a good video, but he was drafted in 2006. A lot of things have changed since then.

In most of these cases, the financial part is agreed to before the pick is made. In other words, team called Dugas said will you sign for $20k if we draft you here and he said yes. Not a case of they draft him and then say here is what we are offering.
Dugas tells the Nats he isn't signing for that and they would have found a senior who would.

Minor leagues in general are brutal. Unless you’re a superstar the odds of making to the league are super tough.
Grinding through the minors is terrible financially. I’ve had friends that literally had part time jobs just to get by. That’s not living comfortably either.
But hey, at the end of the day you’re getting paid to play a game, and have those memories before it’s time to get a career. Or you’re that very small percentage that makes it to the show aka dough.

Spend a few years on the minors train. Enjoy the process and move on. Not many get to say they got to play pro ball.

a lot more turn it down than you might imagine, I was pretty good baseball player, got invited to a couple of tryout camps(Reds,Astros,) while I was waiting on pilot training, but I had a life to start living and a career to start building, I did play a little "semi-pro" when I had time but I couldn't afford to stall my career flailing around chasing a dream

I think he means because Dugas was a Sr, they only gave him $20K instead of he over $300K that pick was slotted for!

That's what "board" means, right? "Room and board" means a place to stay and food to eat.

It was when he said MLB. Clear that he has no clue.

Baseball might be the only job in the world where getting a degree actually hurts your earning potential, at least in the short term.

It will work out for him. Either he ends up in majors, tough odds, or he gets a few more stories to tell on the golf course at his nice sales job.

He will be making far less than that. Low minor league players make roughly $1500/month and don’t get anything in the off season. The pay gets a little better if you get to AAA ball.
