Sometimes people have less passes defended because they are that good at coverage. Just saying!
A Pass Defended is when a DB causes an incomplete pass through anyway legally possible (knock the ball down, INT, hit the defender as he gets the ball in his hands, etc), its a diff stat than a pass break up. Sure, some guys are so good on D that the other team just doesnt even throw their way. We dont have anyone like that. White is our best CB, but teams dont avoid going his way.

Never have met Martin/not related, not from his hometown or anything like that. Some of it is warranted, hes made some mistakes. I said that in my OP. But he gets a lot of shite and most of it just isnt warranted based on his play this year. Last season, it was a diff story. But hes been solid this year.

I think Jamal Adams is still better
Jamal WILL be better.

He is just inconsistent
Everyone on our D is inconsistent this year, except Kwon and Tre White.

Only team worth anything is Miss St.... We think, and he didn't look great in that game.
Who, besides Kwon, looked good in that game on D? Oh and Martin had 13 tackles (2nd that game), 1 FF, and 1 PBU (tied for 1st in both).
quote:

The Ole Miss game did it for me
In my OP:"Some people almost rollover the season he had last year and wont allow their perception of Martin to change because of what he did last year." Point proven.

To elaborate, the film revealed that Mississippi State identified him and attacked him primarily on many plays. Source is Monday's Culotta and Ponamsky. Dan Mullen apparently identified him as an issue.

Next couple of weeks we'll see how RM holds up, then you should come back and brag on him. If warranted.....
Not sure why you are so mad at people sharing their opinions on a message board created to share opinions.
Enjoy the game this weekend, let's all hope RM shines, and our Tigers prevail.

The only reason Martin starts over Adams and Jefferson is because of experience. Martins out of position often and he even gave up a couple big plays against Sam Huston not to mention he's a soft tackler.

I like Adams in the safety spot and Jefferson in the slot with Thomas out. Welter and Martin shouldn't be on the field

In fairness to Martin, Miss State gave our entire defense the business.

In fact, the only people to play consistently well in every game on defense this year have been Tre White, Kwon and Jalen Collins

You must recognize that all of the posters who say and write critical things about how bad our players are at given positions were ALL professional players, themselves, once, and have dabbled in coaching. That's why they can confidently demean any player that they want. Not only that, but when they read that someone else on this RANT says something that also demeans the player, then it merely re-inforces how powerful their own insights are. (I mean, they could all be absolutely wrong, but because they say the same thing that others say, then they must be right.)

Actually two. RM, like several teammates were out of position on a couple of the Wisconsin runs. He's actually only busted coverage a couple of times in the passing game. The horrible long TD pass he gave up against MSU was supposedly due to the defense being in split alignment; some in man and some in zone. He has ability; just needs to be consistent, starting this week.

Bump....

People are finally actually changing their perspective of Martin, even though some said he sucks just a few weeks ago.

2014 stats:
- 48 tackles (4th oin the team)

- 2 INTs (tied for 1st)

- 2 Forced fumbles (ties for 1st)

- 7 pass break ups, 9 passes defended (1st in both categories. Collins has 6 PBUs and 6 PD, Tre White has 4 PBUs and 6 PD)

He's been playing solid all year long. Did he struggle last year? Yep. But he also had a lot of things going on. Now, he's playing some pretty good football and is making plays for us. He made plays for us early on in his career,, playing when Loston / Reid was hurt. He's back to that form. And that's huge because Mills has done very little this year outside of the Wisky game. And now Mills is losing PT to Jamal Adams. Adams and Martin is a very good safety duo. And Jefferson has improved a lot these past few weeks as well.

Martin has improved in conjunction with the rest of the defense, so congrats to him.

I still believe that he is our 4th most talented safety behind Mills, Jefferson and Adams, but that is more a comment on the immense talent back there rather than a slight on Martin.

He is looking better. He got too much blame when we were struggling. Don't start giving him too much credit now that we are playing better. I think the same of him as I did 3 weeks ago.

Ronald has been solid. He had a couple of busted plays that stuck out like sore thumbs, but as you said, who hasn't. I think he's very close to being one of the top-shelf SS in the SEC if not already there. Staying healthy has been the key for him. That and playing in his best position

He provides a veteran presence in the secondary...

I disagree. Talent wise his potential is on par with the rest. He's huge and very athletic. He also makes the calls for the secondary and can play at either SS or FS.

Adams and Jefferson have been very impressive, but they still don't lead the defense like Martin does. While Mills has a better career, Martin has played noticeably better this year. Overall Martin is playing better than he or Loston did the last two years.

I was with you from the beginning KG, I think RM is a finalist in what "Thorpe award" maybe. The guy can play and I feel good about all four of the safeties. LSU DBs were never the problems on defense this year, and I'm glad that most of the time three safeties are in the game per play.

I'm glad Adams was there to pick up Treadwell on that deep pass. Dude is a baller.
