The question I have is: Where is Bama getting the scholarship from?

No doubt, I guess they don't have to play by the rules.

Screw that i wouldn't have released him..He made a commitment here and maybe his signing stoped another recruit coming here so no he shouldn't have been released IMO. Rather him not give Alabama talent then be a good guy..Being a good guy is not his job.

On the flip side who really cares b/c he wasnt going to play.

it opens up a scholarship for us to sign somebody else, which will be huge in next years draft

I knew that college football was getting more and more professional, but I didn't know they had a draft!!!! How many rounds do they have?

In the age of "winning is everything", Les Miles shows tremendous character and integrity in his decision making...Because of this, I think it brings more maturity to the team and sends a very positive message to parents, who, ultimately encourage their kids where to go to school...LSU is fortunate to have a coach like Les...

would be epic if he somehow won a game for them over us down the road

Better yet, on the last play of the game, Jones blows the coverage and LSU wins with a last minute Hail Mary. No wait, that is the Capital One Bowl and coverage coach Saban who is coaching is last game in college for his dream NFL (college) job.

It's easy to understand why a coach wouldn't want a walking, talking playbook transferring to a team he has to face every year.

They will pick his brain, and he will tell them everyrhing he knows, which hopefully isn't much, considering the new dc. Generally speaking, though, it's, a stupid move with no upside.

Good point.

Which mitigates the downside....

I'll grant you that the upside is indeterminable, in terms of whether a recruit would ever factor in the specific prospect of transferring when, after all, they're signing thinking they will play, start and hopefully graduate at the school where they sign. However, I do think that this is an example Miles' class, which combined with other examples, paint a picture of a head coach that recruits (and certainly their families to the extent they're involved) would want to play for, and support.

Also, there's the tangible upside of gaining another scholarship, unless I'm mistaken.

you don't get an extra scholarship for making the release unconditional

I think he meant the scholarship Phelon was using is vacated and now available for a new recruit.

Right. Surely, you don't just lose that scholarship altogether?
