Many people are comparing Miles to Brown and/or Miles to Charlie Mac, etc. I actually think one of the better comparisons is that Miles is Ron Zook. Zook is a decent coach and good recruiter. Hell, Zook took Illinois to the Rose Bowl. However, neither are very bright, both speak in platitudinal language, both took over very established programs. Miles has certainly performed better with LSU than Zook with UF, but overall I think this is a pretty valid comparison.

A little of an understatement don't you think?

How can you honestly compare him with someone with such a relatively horrible coaching record? You know he has never even won a bowl game or 10 games as a head coach.

Right. So since you think both are dumb this is a valid comparison. And your implication is that we're headed for Zook-like years. Except the guy is 50-13 and the team is 8-2.

The best contemporary comparison to Les is Mack Brown. Both had success but both were seen as not "Xs and Os" guys who talked funny. Mack has had the advantage of playing in a weaker conference but still has only won the conference championship once in 11 seasons in Austin (he's about to get #2). The difference is that UT fans who were never sold on Mack bought in after he brought home the 2005 MNC. LSU fans, in contrast, have an inferiority complex and it bothers them when other teams from other schools who haven't won shite let alone a national title make fun of our coach. So LSU fans abandon Miles after one down year and because we lost a hard fought game v. Alabama this year where we had some tough luck (JJ getting hurt, Peterson cramping, botched INT call).

This team is loaded with young talent and will be a force to be reckoned with in 2010 and 2011. Miles deserves the credit for that. Saban built the program and Miles took over. Recruiting as well if not better than Saban. He's represented the university with class and dignity and won on the football field. By any definition, he's having great success. Except for this pathetic fanbase who inexplicably demands perfection.

Thats a pretty bold assumption. Do you have their SAT scores or something?

I swear...this board gets dumber by the hour.

Don't forget LSU is 7-7 over the last 14 SEC games with a great chance of going below the .500 mark this weekend. If you like that trend then more power to you.

No. Intelligence = public speaking ability.

Being a successful head coach of two major college football programs, guiding a team to a national championship and ranked in the Top 5 in 3 of his 4 completed seasons...this is the stuff of a retard. Anyone could do it.

Well no shite because they sucked so bad last year. I mean you can't honestly lump in two close losses to the top two teams as part of a horrible trend.

You are basically using last year record as a trend when we are 4-2 this year.

*Also I am not saying athletes are the best students at their college; however, Miles went to Michigan which is a far better school than most.

I believe that as his screen name implies that he is a doctor of some sort, he just knows, especially because he used the word "platitudes" and assumes that we don't know what that means, we would also assume that his comparison is therefore logical and without reproach.

Also, Ron Zook would only dream to have Les Miles's successes, on and off the field.

MIke Linebacker said it well.

All that proves is we are no better than the 3rd best team in the country at the moment. Even if they are the only good teams we have played it doesn't mean were are on a horrible trend. They are #1 and #2 meaning everyone believes they would beat everyone else.

really, you take one crappy year when we had no qb and put that towards his whole career at LSU, and the 2 losses this year were to #1 and #2 in the country. Last year, with a decent qb, we win 10 games. Compare Miles to Miles. If you want to pick someobody, maybe Joe Pa. They both recruit well and are always in the hunt. Records over the last few years are similar too. And if you can compare Les to Joe Pa, I have no problem with that

LSU is 4-2 in the SEC this year. So much for your trend.

Look, 2008 was a bad year. It started bad when Pelini left and Miles made a mistake in promoting from within. Then Perrilloux. Then Pick Six. Bad defense and mistake prone offense lead to a bad year. And a bad year still was 8-5 with a blowout bowl win. Of the 7 losses you cite, only one was an unmitigated disaster. Our 31-30 loss to the Hogs in Arkansas last year. The Ole Miss loss was disappointing but it was Jefferson's first SEC game. The other 5 losses all came against teams who won 10+ games. This isn't an excuse but it should give you some perspective. We lost to really good football teams in a year in which we were down. And this year, we lost to in my view the best two teams in the country and were in a great position to win one of them.

We have a cupboard full of sick talent and an experienced QB coming back for the first time in 4 years. The fanbase needs to relax and have a little patience. The next two seasons should be awesome.

Well said and I see your point. I really just do not believe that Miles is that good of a coach, but you admittedly do bring in some good points.

I suppose, throwing the Zook comparison to the side for a second, that in trying to compare the state of LSUs program right now with other "elite" programs such as Bama, Florida and even USC, who is admittedly down this year, I just feel that with all other things being equal such as personnel, that our coaching staff does not compare to Bama's or Florida's or USCs. Furthermore, I have no reason to believe that will change anytime soon.

I guess to illustrate my point, I believe if you take the staff from any of the aforementioned schools and place them at LSU right now, LSU instantly becomes a better team by way of better coaching. This is a big concern to me.

The delta cockroach has crawled back from self-imposed hiding after LSU beat Auburn. Guess it was just a matter of time. All we needed was just one loss or weak performance to crawl out in the open when his baseless musings posed as fact were thrown back out again. Of course he is not alone as there are a few of his buddies on here who join him in attempts to lure others to their miserable mindset that must undoubtedly be a joy to be around.

It is simple to see through this. Consider the phrases by which he commits his positive vibe to e-posterity: "I really just do not believe..."; "I suppose..."; "I just feel...does not compare";
"I have no reason to believe..."; and, the creme de la creme of his wisdom: "I guess to illustrate my point, I believe if you take the staff from any of the aforementioned schools and place them at LSU right now, LSU instantly becomes a better team by way of better coaching. This is a big concern to me." We get it...you feel like crap and want others to commiserate with you.

I haven't been hiding anywhere bud.

Since I have your attention, admittedly odd since I don't post much on the Rant but you seem to have some fascination with me, answer the following questions honestly for me - what will it take for you to see that Miles is not an elite coach? Would it take losing the next two games? Would it take going 8-4 again next year? What is your breaking point?

I bet you were a Smoke Laval fan and a John Brady fan too...weren't you.

do us all a favor and think about what this team would look like w/ rp still here leading the offense. think about what miles record would be. he made a mistake w/ the mallpevato deal, and he has owned that and fixed it. jl was a bust and they are doing the best they can to ease jj along, asking him to not lose games. this will pay dividends the nexr 2 yrs.

try to think about these things before posting agin and you may find you get a lil more respect on this board.

insane comparisons w/ the likes of zook will get you hammered. it just makes NO sense at all

don't flatter yourself. I find you and the other "LSU fans" doing this crap disgusting. In fact, I come around here less and less BECAUSE there is far too much negativity on the rant.

Exactly. But your BS is quite noticeable when you are here.

quote:

(NOTE: I realize you will praise yourself for believing that you have pulled me into your negative ranting and that I am feeding your narcissism but here goes anyway.) I would not be pleased with 2 more losses this year. Does that mean I have turned to your darkness? No. I thought this was a 3-loss season before it started. I expect a positive trend BY THE END OF THE SEASON. I expect LSU and Les to be back on track next year and competing for the SEC and NC in 2011. THEN I will think it is time to start a coach search. Until that time I support Les 100% and believe he will do the right things to get this back on track...he has earned the opportunity to do so.

Breaking point? That insinuates something that is not relevant to my perspective on LSU football or any sport for that matter. My life and frame of mind is not affected by the outcome of a sporting event of any kind. Sure I get pissed when LSU loses but it ends as soon as the game is over. Same with the excitement of winning. It is entertainment -- nothing more, nothing less.

Proof you are what most on here think you are: a negative asswipe.
