don't think he "failed to qualify" per se. My understanding is that there's no proof of his grades from Miller-McCoy, which probably included some of the core classes required by the NCAA for eligibility...
I wonder then why Louisiana didn't require him to retake these classes before he received his diploma. You have to take and pass 24 hrs of core classes to be eligible to graduate in Louisiana. Sounds fishy to me from the ncaa or Louisiana just said we believe you took these classes just finish your senior year and you can graduate.

Would not be surprised AT ALL if this were the case. It ended up screwing Anthony out of a year of football, though.

Louisiana can be crooked as hell sometimes so it's possible.
Couldn't he go play at a juco for a year and then come here, that way he is still playing instead of not playing unless he is able to use the facilities at LSU and the only thing he can't do is practice or play. Then I understand not going juco.

I'm sure the options were weighed, and LM and AA determined this was best for him. Certain criteria have to be met to transfer back from a JUCO after only a semester, and they may not have wanted to take that route. Plus, it's only a semester...
ETA: and he's enrolled at LSU for that semester...

While the NCAA is plenty culpable here, chalk another screw up to Jindal & Pastorek's mismanagement of public education in Louisiana.

Kid does everything right and still gets screwd over by adults without a clue. Its actually sad and wrong.
La'el Collins and his pissed away first round draft pick money can relate.

The kid is getting an education. He just won't be able to play football this year.
If he's not allowed to be around the team, does this restrict his access to priority scheduling, tutors, study halls and the like? I'd say that's a definite issue in my book. If I were the kid or his guardian, I'd be prepared to ask why other prospective student athletes were cleared by the Clearinghouse. Shortly.

Andre Anthony is 1 of my fav players from this past recruiting class. Good size, great length and antheticism and can flat out get after the QB. And is a perfect fit for Arandas D.
Probably wouldn't have seen too much PT on D this year, but I thought he was gonna be a very good special teamer for us as a freshman. Feel bad for him in this situation because it's not his fault at all. But he is gonna be a monster down the road.
And in regards to Valentine... I'll believe it when I see it

Sounds as if a man's right to an education is being jeopardized by potential policy and or procedural violations.
Actually, it sounds more like he keeps the scholarship and gets the education, but he just can't play this season. I was hoping he would be allowed to be eligible to play this season. I agree that it's not his fault the school closed and no records were available.

Not sure about an "academic" red-shirt. Upon reading about it, it appears he can practice. However, Les Miles' comment about him not being with the team makes me wonder if he's under some extra restriction as well. It could be that he's just not on campus right now.

He's still on scholarship, so he's with the football program. I'd imagine with his academic situation, he would have even more access to these things to make sure that his grades are straight, so he can get back on the field ASAP.

The fact remains that other prospective student athletes at this same school during this same timeframe are now participating at other NCAA Member Insitutions and were cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
This is the price we pay for our incredibly poor educational delivery model in this nation and especially in this state, but this is a potentially glaring example of uneven handling and processing of Anthony's case when compared to other MM students who went on to a postseconday athletic and academic career.

ravonte Valentine is in the final stages of completing his return to the LSU football team, a source confirmed Wednesday. The program is processing his final paperwork and summer academic work. Valentine could be cleared as early as Wednesday night.

This may be a good thing with the forced redshirt season. I rather him get bigger and stronger without wasting a year on kickoff coverage. Next season maybe he can take over after Bower leaves. I think we have enough depth for this season.
