CPM Part 1

It was going fine; he explained why some private schools, like Vandy and TCU, have a big recruiting advantage over LSU. All legitimate stuff. Then he segued into some bullshite about some state schools, like Florida and TAMU, having a population advantage. While technically it's true that they have larger populations, they don't have our brand. It kind of pissed me off that CPM is claiming a disadvantage to UF and TAMU.

If there's any disadvantage, he's created it.

Right, in the case of Florida their brand is much more recognizable and much more respected. You can't seriously think that the school that produced Gatorade doesn't have a branding advantage over a school whose fanbase shits all over their own logo any time they get a chance.

Right but I wonder if he knows that Lsu has the best known brand in college baseball and he should be recruiting the best of the best at every position and he should be able to easily leave the state if need be to get the best of the best. Lsu baseball sells it self. Im sure its a little more difficult to sell when you have a dickhead running the program.

Does he explain anywhere in that interview why his teams can't hit in the postseason?

Sorry, but LSU has a huge recruiting advantage as well with TOPS.

And yet Virginia won the national title.

Q: Your bullpen. You see Vanderbilt and other teams throw these guys out of the pen, and one after another are throwing 96 miles per hour. I hate to sound blunt, but why don’t we see that at LSU?

Mainieri: That’s a really tough question to answer. Circumstances are different at every university that allow certain caliber players to be recruited. It’s not a normal thing for a player to turn down $2 million signing bonuses to attend LSU. But that happens pretty regularly at Vanderbilt. Anybody could speculate to what those reasons are. I’m not going to sit here and say anything. Whatever I say sounds like excuses, and I’m not going to make excuses.

It is what it is. We deal with the circumstances. Some schools have certain things they’re able to do that others are not. Nothing is necessarily equal across the board. You think it is. You think everybody just has 11.7 scholarships, but that’s not exactly the way it is all of the time.

I'm talking LSU baseball. The LSU baseball brand is much better than the Gators. It's not even close.

Are the TCU''s and Vandy's really at that much more of an advantage as CPM states? If so then why doesn't the NCAA allow the scholarship number to be raised from 11.7 to say....15. I personally think 11.7 is silly but I don't know much, lol.

Sounds like Mainieri could be the next coach in Lafayette with all those excuses.

I don't think that's true, JJ. I'm no expert, but I don't think a baseball player can get TOPS in lieu of a baseball scholarship.

Good God. Why can't he simply own it? Say that although we had a highly successful year, they failed to meet the lofty standard of expectations that exist at LSU. That he understands and accepts and embraces those expectations and feeds the drive that he, his staff and players all come to work to fulfill day after day, year after year. No excuses....our goal is to keep LSU on top and concede nothing to anyone. Now it is time to self evaluate, identify our weaknesses, understand how the game may be changing, and adapt to get back to where we need to be. That is our sole focus and we are working overtime to ensure we are on the right track.

Why can't he just say that?
