I hate to agree with the OP but after Mett we are back to QB projects and athletes It would be nice to have somebody back there that has the football smarts and just naturally has it but i worry after the past few years of inconsistent play by QB projects

exactly, assuming Mett is the real deal, but we really don't know for sure do we?, it is pure chance that one of the others might develop. And that's one of my points. $ paid to coach should mean we have a couple of blue chippers on the bench vying for the position, not a hope that one might develop.

An assessment can only be made with enough reps (and plays) in the game; again, practice is playing among friends. *CLM often boasted of JJ's ability during practice...during practice!

Youre saying we are makin assumptions that Mett will be good while you are maling assumpions our whole entire QB roster will be bad before ever seeing them play

You see how this thread is stupid?

Rummy please whack this. Its making everyone that looks at it a little more stupid.

Same thing can be said about every college program in America.

Bama - after McCarron, they have project QBs/athletes
Ok State - No clue who they have now that Weeden is gone
Oregon - same
Wiscy - no clue
UGA - no clue after Murray
Arkansas - who is Wilson's back up?

Noone cares if you have 4 QBs that can start right now, becasue if you had 4 QBs that could start right now, 3 would be transferring out. You need a definitive starter who is familiar with playbook, a couple backups who are being groomed, and a RS that is getting familiar with the program. We have that.

Why is LSU constantly plagued at the most critical position? And I'm talking since Tommy Hodson days.

I thought JR, MM, and MF were pretty fair college QBs.

No one in the country knows how their recruits are going to pan out no matter how highly rated they may be. This post is idiotic.

Completley disagree. The QB situation was a huge cluster after Perrilloux left for sure. We couldn't decide between Hatcher and Lee, then all of a sudden Jefferson comes along.

But bringing in Mettenberger was probably the best thing Miles could have done as far as the QB position is concerned. He is an experienced QB - he will have the offense for 2 years giving the younger QBs to mature and one of them to take over their sophmore year.

You want your future QBs to stay on the sideline for 1 or 2 years, we can afford that now with Mettenberger.

You're introducing the strawman fallacy in your post: I never said any QB on the roster will be "bad". We have some info on Mett, so based on this information, he "projects" to be at least good, but we really don't know that either. But the others, Randall, Rivers, Loggins, etc. -- based on the information I have, I can't say they will be good, although they might very well turn out to be; but probabilistically speaking?

Rohan Davey, Matt Mauck, Jamarcus Russell, Matt Flynn. These guys were very productive and all racked up BCC game wins. 3 of the 4 were SEC champs. Two were national champs. One was the first pick in the draft and won the freakin' Manning Award. Sheez.

To avoid controversy, I left out Herb Tyler (who won a lot of games) and Josh Booty (who was All-SEC his last year). and if you just want to talk about having the talent to play the position, we had Craig Nall (transferred to NW State and then played in the NFL) and Ryan Perrilloux (may still make it in the NFL).

I can shake a pomp pomp with the best of them. But, no, I'd rather not stick my head in the sand, or trust *CLM completely right now given how he "managed" the last game.

Name 1 school in the country that has blue chippers riding the bench. All QBs are projects that coaching staffs have to develop. And fans will never know how good or bad they are until they start taking reps in a game.

The stupidity on here never ceases to amaze me.

I'm not sure that's a realistic view of the QB corps. There's some pretty danged good talent on the roster and until they're able to get in there and show what they can do, you're being totally speculative. No one thought that AJ McCarron would be as productive this past year for Bama, as he was, myself included. I guess my point is this: Give them the benefit of the doubt through spring practice, fall camp, and the first 2-3 games of the '12 season before making the assumption you made here. IMHO of course :)
