Very good hire. I'm so glad we didn't go the route of hiring someone with no experience like most people wanted here.

I think people were wayyyy to over reactionary to the lack of experience for Mawae. He would have been fine coaching

On the flip side, people are wayyyy over reactionary in just assuming that Mawae would be a great hire because he was a great player and is smart and went to LSU.

Maybe, but should his 1st coaching job ever be at a top 15 program? Doesn't make sense to me.

Is that guy whose dad is friends with Stud downvoting every positive post about this potential hire? Methinks that might be the case.

Homerun hire if true and he accepts...

Grimes is an EXCELLENT recruiter as well.

He IS AN OL COACH. And will continue to get us top recruits. That said, let me try to think of some negative spin I can put on this. I'll get back to you in a little bit.

Comments at the bottom of page. They definitely don't want to lose him.

Even the simplest solution, Tech counters any LSU offer with an equally competitive one, is complicated for a few of reasons.

I don't believe Grimes will be paid more than the coaches above him on the food chain.
If Grimes is getting a raise, then why not Torrian Gray ($221,704)? Gray's a long tenured coach and terrific assistant in his own right.
Virginia Tech is transitioning its athletic director, and president for that matter. Who would sign off on any salary adjustments?
Is 8-5 and 7-6 good enough for anyone to receive a raise?

I feel like this is said with every position hire. This guy recruited and helped develop the guy we told would be a guard into a first round lt. Also judging by this recruiting cycle we could use all the recruiters we can get.

But...But...Aleva wouldn't OK this kind of hire because he's trying to save money on the budget!!

Anyways, if we hire Grimes I expect him to be the highest paid OL coach in the country. I believe he was already that at AU. This would be a homerun hire for us and a massive upgrade over Stud in both recruiting/coaching.

Yall do realize we already had the highest paid OL coach in the country with Stud right?

He made over 2X as much as Grimes did at VT

Grimes = 235k

Stud = 500k

Grimes, or whomever we hire, will cost less than Stud but still get a nice raise

That's one guy. Do you really not see how there is more risk in hiring Mawae than a proven guy?
