If true, then LSU lied last year when they used the women's tourney as an excuse not to submit a bid. I think many thought that was a bogus reason and they were more afraid of not having anyone show up for a first round game.
Sometimes the government (or in this case, the LSU AD) has to protect us from ourselves. If LSU had hosted a first round NIT game last year, the PMAC would have been a morgue, which would have been a huge embarrassment. There was a lot of apathy among the fans and nobody would have turned out for that.
This year, there is a lot of excitement around the program, lots of positive vibes, and the team is fun to watch. I think the fans would jump on a chance to go to an NIT game. It reminds me of 2002 when we hosted Ball State and drew damn near 12,000 for an NIT game. If there is a want, the NIT can be a good event to host. Do I want to host one every year from here to eternity? Obviously not...but this year would be a good year to do it.
My belief is that the teams are seeded by the NIT people and the schools can host or not host. Each year, a lower seed has had to travel to a higher seed because they couldn't host for some reason.
If LSU is seeded high enough to host and doesn't get to due to the women's tournament, I think there should be an uproar. There is NO reason we shouldnt be able to host on Tuesday or Wednesday.
