well, the same "machine" that brought you Mitchell, Thomas, Davis, GT, etc. is what is bringing you the same players we are raving about now .. i.e. we don't really know how "great" of a recruiter Jones is or will be ..

that's fine... just get the talent here. I don't give two fricks who or what is behind the guys wanting to come here as long as they come here. Then we have to do something with it.

I'll rate a coach's recruiting based off of who gets here on campus and not the reason why.

yes .. but it is never good to have "outside" influences, not on your coaching staff, directing your recruiting efforts .. eventually this leads to a lester earl, which shut the "machine" down for almost a decade ..

There are any number of reasons to be disappointed.

My take on yesterday's game is we were worn out at the end. Thought JOB was about to collapse from exhaustion. Especially with Morgan out, we have no bench. It's been puzzling at times why JJ switches to zone when man to man is working. I think he is trying to give his players a rest.

Talk about whether JJ is or isn't a "great" recruiter is pointless. He's bringing in talent. Why would an "elite" player want to play for LSU when they have offers from "elite" schools. Most of these youngsters could care less about our 2006 appearance in the Final Four. That was nearly 8 years ago.

eh yeah... he's got good recruiters on staff too with Patrick and McCray. Needs a good X's and O's guy. I won't keep repeating who I want as I've already been accused of being related to him

i am just saying most of Brady's early teams sucked because he "cowboy'ed" it on his own when he first got here .. his staff alone did land stromile, jabari, and torris .. but after that, we stagnated .. then he patched things up with the "machine" and the "machine" delivered that great AAU crew on a silver platter that he rode to the 2006 Final Four .. but the fact that he lost his job just two years after reaching our first Final Four in 20 years spoke volumes for what those in the know knew about what the real story was ..

Then Trent took the "machine's" last group and won the SEC with it, while playing cowboy too .. the difference is that he never "patched" things up and it all went to crap ... my concern is that CJJ is to the "machine" what Governor O.K. Allen was to Huey Long .. you live with the "machine", you die with the "machine" .. CJJ needs a great bench coach badly !

that behind the back alley oop pass was devastating; made it look like they were toying with LSU

Totally agree. We've relied so much on Jordan, he's played major minutes all season. He's been "off" for the past few weeks, not the blocking beast of earlier. His body language/facial expressions just tell me he's tired and down. And I think he's fed-up of losing.

We have no bench, we're just as bad off as last year IMO, without the hustle. With the exception of Jordan, I feel like the freshmen and some on- the-bench sophomores don't play as hard as last years version.
When we had senior Charles Carmouche, juniors Coleman,JOB, and our junior/sophomore guard tandem on the court, the team really had chemistry. They all played loads of minutes and with no bench to speak of they just couldn't get it done last year.

dale had rick huckabay in the late 70s/early 80s and tex winter after that .. those were, consequently, the glory years of LSU basketball ..

Is the "machine" we are referring to Collis Temple?

If so I think that machine began and ended with his sons' eligibility, but he still lurked in the shadows and whether Trent handled that poorly or not it was a sticky situation for any coach.

Yes .. Collis is a large cog in the "machine" .. He was for a long time .. but the "machine" has many more parts .. Collis' health is failing him now, so he's not as involved .. But he is still somewhat involved .. Not knocking TJ as much as just giving a snap shot as to how things work in Grand Patriarch Dale's LSU program ..

I think johnny is doing a great job, we are still a team on the rise in the bigger picture.

As I left the missouri game a few weeks ago i walked through the same exit the team uses to get to the locker room. Collis Sr was standing right outside the door to the locker room looking as upbeat and sociable as ever. He didnt look at all like he was ill.

Johnny needs to fix this defense.

I'm not writing Coach Jones off like some idiots 'round here. 2 years isn't enough time - unless they go on some miracle run (winning 6 of 7 and a run in the SECT) this season is shot.

I think Seinfeld summed up the lsu basketball situation in this thread. Folks have stretched the JJ excitement into a tad bit more than the reality.

Pump the breaks on him and the future.

Elite makes a one to two year turnaround into a top 15 ranking

He's had colon cancer, last year. As far as I know it's now in remission. He looks a lot better than he did a few months ago.
