Who's going to get the first shot at Sunday?

McCune hoping to get his control back from the Freshman season?
Stretch Cotton out?
New Face?

Coming out of Fall, it sounded like Russell Reynolds would be the guy.

Poor guy. He was raking most of last year and then I remember some ESPN talking head pretty much laughed at his pro prospects. Hope he is juicing and ready to whack the ball around.

I saw him pitch in one of the games of the Purple and Gold World Series and he got completely shelled. Like 6 runs in less than 2 innings

Much better and timely hitting, more HR's, SEC champs and Javi gets fired after we win the national title.

Arby Fields got cut? Damn, Paul looking a little culturally biased between him, Watkins, and Ware

I expect this to be a better hitting team, and pitching to be down a tad. But like always, a super regional host and potentially Omaha is what I hope for.

I agree with all of this. Losing Goody, Gausman, and Broussard (for 2013) is a pretty big blow to our pitching staff, but luckily we have Alan Dunn. I really think he'll do great things with McCune, who was throwing off speed pitches in fall ball . Weekend rotation will still be very solid with Nola and Eades, probably McCune or Bourgeois to take the Sunday spot.

Mason Katz and Raph Rhymes returning is huge not only for their relatively stellar bats, but leadership as well, especially with the senior departures of Hanover, Nola, and Dozar.

Three freshmen have impressed me in Fall Ball: Alex Bregman, Mark Laird, and Andrew Stevenson. All have very solid bats, Bregman is a fantastic infielder, and Laird has some serious wheels. I really think we'll see those three and Chris Chinea get the most PT of all the first years. Chinea didn't impress me for most of the fall, but BLASTED a homer at the last scrimmage...hit the super chevy dealers part of the scoreboard

We have a good problem: too many options at 1B/C. For the most part I've seen Ty Ross (weak arm..), Tyler Moore, and Chinea play C, with Evan Powell (also plays C), Mason Katz, Geonte' Jackson, and even Alex Edward on 1st. Of course Tyler Moore can play 1st if we need him to. This, however, has lead to a depth concern for the other three infield positions. Mason Katz has actually seen time at 3B (that was a nightmare) and 2B during the fall as well.

Our starting 4-5-6 will probably consistently have Jones and Bregman, with folks like Ibarra, Geonte' Jackson, and maybe even Foster fighting in the OOC to earn the starting IF spot. I fear we may be cornered into making Katz the 4 to give someone else PT at 1st.

Outfield is a more comfortable conversation. A definite starter would be Rhymes, probably in LF. Serious contenders for the other starting spots are Sciambra (great to see him back...he had the want in fall ball), Stevenson, Laird, Edward, and Foster if he isn't used in the infield.

Overall, I really think we'll see a significant improvement in batting, slight decline in pitching (more decline in bullpen than starting IMO), and a great outfield with a shaky infield. We'll miss Nola and Hanover for their defense more than their bats, but that's no secret.

If we can stay healthy, especially at 1, 4, 5, and 6, I really think we'll have another great season in Alex Box

Ware peacefully resigned to focus on football, but it is a funny coincidence

We have another token this year in #16 Geonte' Jackson.
