The true power of The Force was most present for 1971 Notre Dame and 1979 USC, with USC taking the top spot as the loudest sustained game (as a number of knowledgeable posters have stated). Sure, the seating capacity was fewer, but everyone there was an LSU football fanatic those nights, not a wuss doctor and his three little girls like the guy I sit next to now.

Look up the history of '71 Notre Dame. There never was a more anticipated game. The Tigers had gone to their stadium the year before to play powerful #1 (and eventual National Champs) ND and felt screwed by a late 4th-quarter pass interference call that put the Irish in position to kick a field goal and eek out a 3-0 victory. Even their newspapers headlined "ND #1, LSU #1A". For an entire year the only game that mattered was clear. "Go To Hell, Notre Dame" bumper stickers and billboards were all over Baton Rouge. For the first time in history students had to enter a lottery to win tickets in the student section. I had tickets to the game that I sold for $400, at a time when minimum wage was $1.35 an hour.

Despite a notable size advantage, ND was stopped four times on fourth down tries inside the LSU ten yard line, once from the 6 inch line. I was on the field when Andy Hamilton caught a touchdown pass before halftime - you actually felt the wind on your face and in your hair, generated by the collective shout that erupted rather than Mother Nature.

Never thought I would see that surpassed until #1 USC came to town in '79 with an entire team of future NFL players and TWO Heisman winners in their backfield, Charles White and Marcus Allen (NFL Hall of Fame), two All-American O-linemen AND future NFL Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz. The crowd nearly willed a very ordinary (finished 7-5) Tiger team to victory. I was in the south end zone and had to stand for the entire game, as after the opening kickoff the crowd never sat down. I don't think the Trojans heard a single snap count and there were many delay of game penalties that assisted the Tigers. USC scored with 32 seconds remaining by lining up their fastest receiver at tight end and running a post corner against safety Marcus Quinn, who was a good player but not as fleet of foot. The drive had been aided by a questionable face mask penalty on a fourth down stop.

USC's Ronnie Lott (NFL Hall of Famer) said, "“Every one of us left that night saying ‘that was a game', but I still think about it that way. I haven’t been in an event like that at any level of football. Out of all the games I’ve ever played in, I’ve never been in anything like that, and I am including my Super Bowls in that assessment.” Sports Illustrated: “Southern Cal had the misfortune of encountering an LSU team which, pumped up beyond belief by its raucous fans, went out and played the entire game without its feet ever touching the ground. That was the only way the Tigers could’ve stayed with the Trojans.”

I've been to all the nominated games since 1973...not old enough to have been at 71 Notre Dame which will certainly be nominated.

And honestly, IMHO it's not even close. USC '79.

2008 Alabama when they blocked the FG.. that was the loudest moment I’ve heard

2012 Alabama was the loudest game. That was a constant roar for the entire game.

USC 1979 ...i was in the student section it was full 4 hours bedore the gamr started...

I’m pretty sure I started the Go! Tigers! coming down the mezzanine. Great atmosphere and very loud for sure. The you suck chomp was awesome! If u rewatch the game on YouTube when Chase caught the 60+ dagger from Burrow the speakers on the broadcast actually crackle from the fan eruption.

That was a very electric night, pre-game and early first half... LOUD

A lot of games have gotten ridiculously loud but games like 03 UGA and 2019 FLA were loud the entire game. Games like that you’re tired when you get home.
