Going to be in Vancouver this weekend and looking for a good place to watch the Tigers. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thanks Nasty. No cruise just business Sunday through Tuesday. Taking the wife on this trip as neither of us have been to Vancouver and we arriving Friday evening. Most of my trips to Canada are to the Eastern parts.

If you have any suggestions of things not to miss, please let me know. I have some free time, but she has all the time in the world (except game time) on Sat-Mon.

Cheers mate.

Not sure about 'don't miss' but taking the seaferry across the bay and checking out the market is pretty cool. There are also eateries and parks over there which are nice to check out too.

Speaking of parks, Stanley park is something to check out if weather permits. I'd recommend renting bikes there as it will make the time and travel there much more pleasurable.

Generally just walking around the downtown area is something to check out. Heads up about the junkies in the area btw, but they seemed laid back (no different than any large city I'd imagine)
Side note the Asian influence in VC is strong so I'd also recommend checking out some authentic Japanese food. The ramen is soo good. Hopes this helps a little

Wife probably wouldn't enjoy it, but the waitresses at Moxie's are very easy on the eyes. It's an upscale sports bar/Hooter's with surprisingly good steak.

Watching ESPN in the great white north is tough not many sports bars will have it. Best bet will be to ask concierge at hotel or find a buffalo wild wings (yeah I know it’s a chain w questionable wings) but they do promote FB and will likely subscribe to PPV so you can watch, otherwise watch it on a PC. Good news is its not hockey season or it is really tough to get a canuck to change a TV from hockey to CFB.

Check out the Cactus club if you want something a little hip.

Shark Club is probably the biggest sports bar around there.

Born and raised Vancouverite here so if you have any additional questions let me know.

Must Dos - I assume Navy was referring to Granville island and the little ferry that takes you across False Creek. That is pretty neat.

If you jog or the like - try the Seawall around Stanley Park - about a 4.5 mile loop of amazing scenery.

If you go to the North Shore - Capilano suspension bridge is pretty cool and take the gondola up to the top of Grouse Mountain for a world class view.

If you want to drive a bit, the Sea to Sky highway (to Whistler) is an amazingly scenic drive.

the time and travel there much more pleasurable.

As for the junkies, they are around, particularly if you go near East Hastings... they tend to be harmless though but there is a lot of them (and 'street' kids).

Sushi is awesome and abundant due to the city almost effectively being an Asian city now. Strolling the streets of gastown is pretty cool.

Definitely worth the time! And some of the ferries out to the islands give you some great views as well. I used to travel up there quite a bit for business, probably the best scenery I have every seen. Took the family up to Whistler one spring break for sking, great time. I've also biked on the mountain during the summer, can't beat the area.

The Capilano bridge is also crowded, and $35 per person to cross. The Lynn Canyon suspension bridge (Google it) is right down the road, is also nice, way less crowded and it's free.

I'm surprised a "Vancouverite" would give such shoddy advice.

$35 now? Damn (I moved in 1997). Lynn Canyon is reasonable alternative but not as dramatic. When I return, I go to Lynn Canyon, but do so as I grew up in Lynn Valley - and yes I have dominated 90 foot.

Tourists prefer the dramatics of Capilano I have found. Further, Capilano puts you closer to grouse and given they only have a few days made more sense.

But by all means, Lynn Canyon is plenty fine and definately cheaper - just a touch farther out of the way unless you are entering the North Shore on Second Narrows which most tourists do not.

I know about not getting ESPN in Canada! I was attending a conference two years ago in Banff and went back to room to watch LSU. Hotel staff told me "Sure we got the ESPN"
It was Pre- Season hockey!!!!
I get Dish Network on my I-Pad but would rather watch in a sports bar and possibly meet some fellow Tiger Fans.

Thanks for the advice about sightseeing. I'm staying very close to Stanley Park so we are going to check it out. Plus China Town

Is the Shark Club near the Fairmont Waterfront? If you don't know, I will google it.

Thanks for the other tips.

I was in BC a few years ago and could not find a sports bar that would show college football. Not even an option.

I ended up drivng the three hours to Seattle to watch the game. The LSU alumni group there is great. You may not have to drive to Seattle, but you might have to at least cross the border.
