re: LoLo Jones on Today Show ... Still an incredible Tiger in my eyes

Part of what makes the Olympics so compelling is trying to understand what motivates these people to dedicate their lives to sport. Nobody was predicting Lolo to win gold and several announcers doubted she'd even make the final. Sort of sad to see her so devastated even when she came in 4th in the fastest hurdle race ever and she ran her best time of the year while still recovering from surgery last year. Hopefully she can find peace knowing her fans still love and support her.

Kellie Wells sounds like a jealous @$nt, LoLo didn't work hard? What a bitch.

I can't decide who's worse? These sore winners who obviously are jealous of LoLo or that Maroni girl gymnast that blew her chance at a gold on the vault that couldn't even congratulate her opponents and looked like a sourpuss on the podium.

LoLo is a great Tiger, a tremendous hurdler who did well to compete in the Olympics & just miss winning a medal.
She also showed far more class than either of the other two hurdlers, who seemed to resent all the attention Lolo received from fans & the media.

Super classless. I understand their point a little but nothing was deserving of acting like that on national television. They could have shown grace and could had their moment but all I am going to remember from these girls is that they were classless winners. Man we have come a long way as Americans in this reality TV world we live in and Michelle Beadle/NBC could have made those girls focus a bit more on them winning verses LoLo losing to them. Just dumb.
Oh yeah...
She is still a TIGER!

It's not like LoLo did something personal to one of those girls, they were just pissed that she was getting all the attention before the race. Again, whether or not it was the result of LoLo's own self-promotion or whatever, there was no call for this type of personal attack against a teammate. Team USA's track coach should make a public statement about how she was treated and make both of those two idiots apologize to her publicly.
How about praising her for posting her best time of the year in her biggest race of the year? Yes, she wasn't quite as good as the top 3, but she didn't choke or not give it her all. She made it to the team. She made it to the finals. She finished 0.1 short. She even corrected her interviewer when she mentioned how close that is telling her that in track that is a big difference. She has been extremely gracious when she had every reason to be mad.

What a piece of shite JERÉ LONGMAN is for writing that article... Trashing his fellow American.
The worst part is that he hints that she was making a bad joke about the shooting in Aurora.
F*** JERÉ LONGMAN and F*** the NY times.

In recent days, Jones has been criticized for what many have called an insensitive Twitter remark in the wake of the mass shooting in a theater in Aurora, Colo. After the United States lost the gold medal to Italy in the team archery competition, Jones wrote, “When’s da Gun shooting competition?” She clarified her remark, saying she was referring to American pre-eminence in hunting, which she had done with Southerners. (Jones attended Louisiana State in a state known as the Sportsman’s Paradise.)

I like Lolo, but I wish she won something legitimate.

WOW! This guy is trying too hard to make a story. Newspaper journalists are the worst kind of people. She is from LSU, of course she knows the south is all about shooting things. Especially things you can eat or hang on the wall. This is just terrible and these are the same people driving the "political" wheel when it comes to informing the masses. And these people push and cry for political correctness but don't do the same for others.

Now that I've seen the Beadle interview I'll follow up on my inquiry about what motivates these athletes. Our generation has watched the TV coverage of the Olympics spending more time on back story than the actual event. This year they have really overplayed the nauseating 'let's watch the parents in the stands' bit (can blame Phelps' mother in Beijing for that). It is clear that Harper and Wells are (at least partially) driven by the need for attention. Now that their 11 seconds of fame are over they are realizing that they aren't / won't be stars and it is sad that bitterness has any part in their experience. Then again, maybe that bitterness fueled their success... Thankful that Lolo has class!

I hope that LSU has some plans to honor her at a football game this fall.
this is a great idea! and i’m sure the LSU brass is thinking the same.
Maybe Lolo can hold up a sign, saying, “Thanks America, thanks LSU, I’m beautiful but I can’t help that, so frick the NY Times!

Dawn Harper is from East St. Louis, which is about as ghetto as it gets. You see alot of this attention whoring, jealous, "me first" mentality from hood rats for some reason. I don't get it. Pretty classless interview. And she wonders why she can't get the commercial endorsements and notoriety like Lolo Jones......
