Honestly, why do any of you care about this stupid "award"? It's only been in existence for six years and it's the most contrived piece of advertising fluff of all the awards there could possibly be, with the exception being:
The Home Depot Coach of the Year Award. The award is selected by ESPN and ABC college football analysts. Who here gives a shite about ESPN awards? I hate ESPN. I couldn't give a rip shite who Mark May or Robert Smith or Lou Holtz or Brent Musberger choose. This is all about selling ad space on their fricked up, control-the-message network.
The ones that count and actually mean something are:
The Walter Camp Coach of the Year Award is given annually to the collegiate American football head coach adjudged by a group of National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors under the auspices of the Walter Camp Football Foundation. The award has been presented yearly since 1967.
The AFCA Coach of the Year award is given annually to a college football coach by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). The award has been presented since 1935.
The Paul 'Bear' Bryant Award is an award that has been given annually since 1957 to NCAA college football's national coach of the year. The Award was named in honor of longtime Alabama coach Bear Bryant starting in 1986. It is voted on by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
The Associated Press College Football Coach of the Year Award is an award that is given annually since 1998 to NCAA college football's national coach of the year. The award is voted on by the Associated Press (AP) voters that participate in the weekly college football AP Poll.
