dumb premise. put freeze, mullen, mcelwain, malzahn, or richt at lsu, and miles at any one of those schools. lsu would be better, and those schools would be worse.

Not sure I'd take any of those coaches over Miles.

Definitely not Malzahn, Richt or Freeze.

Time will tell on McElwain.

Mullen maybe, but he hasn't looked good against Bama at all.

None of these dudes are locks to be better than what we've had under Les.

I'm tired of the Miles show but this is a reach.

At this point, the ONLY thing I'm looking for is for Les to have a Plan B in exchange for >$5M/yr.

When Plan A isn't working, there's NO adjustment whatsoever much less an actual Plan B.

That is UNACCEPTABLE for that kind of salary.

Look, I live the man Les Miles and he's generally pretty successful as a coach. But whether it's stubborness or lack of adequate preparation or just too proud to say I refuse to give up on what I thought was a stellar Plan A, there is NO EXCUSE for failing, repeatedly, to make adjustments or try a new angle of attack.

List the number of coaches that have had as much talent as Les in the last 10 years.

I would have to agree. I know the OP wants to know who has had more success than Miles. Right now the only answer to that question is Saban and Myer.
Who would I like to see hired Mark Dantonio of Michigan State. 2 current NFL QB starters, arguably one of the best running backs in the league, consistently a top 25 defense and offense. Is locked in a recruiting battle every year with Michigan and Ohio State. Imagine what he could do here

Every team can pull a rabbit out of the hat once in awhile. Does not mean he isn't a great coach

Using a sliding scale for talent on the team they actually coach.

I'd say nearly all of them.

Les Miles is one of the best coaches of his generation, he is just unfortunately stuck in a division with one of the best coaches of all time.

It's frustrating, but losing to Nick Saban and Alabama is no disgrace.

I love Les. I dislike that we look like the same from week to week. Sometimes our best is not good enough to beat teams like alabama.

We got Alabama's best shot on Saturday. When that happens it's going to be really tough for any team to win. Yes I would have liked to see more adjustments too but i'm also not sure it would have mattered and when you start asking your players to change their style of play for 1 opponent it's also possible you're just going to make it worse.

Glad to see this has more upvotes than downvotes. Maybe the rant isn't as dumb as I thought.

think that Miles and his program DO deserve some criticism after 5 straight REALLY meaningful losses to our bitter rival...but to what end? Those that hat Miles and have since day 1 don;t need my input to dislike them guy, and I'm not eager to give them any red meat. And you're put in a position to make posts like this, which while true look like nothing but an attempt to deflect...which it is.

I'm glad someone gets it. Why do these conversations always devolve into:

"We need to fire miles"

or

"You're criticizing Miles? Tell me who we should replace him with rantard dumbass face..."

How about we criticize Miles for some glaring deficiencies, but also recognize that

a. There's no way Miles will be or should be replaced

b. It is perfectly reasonable and acceptable to criticize the head coach, and still not be one of those idiots who calls for his firing after every loss.

But no. These conversations always devolve into pissing matches between two opposite lunatic fringes of our fan base.

Well shite if your happy with 10 wins year in and year out you love Miles.

If you know your teams never lives up to their potential, always gets outcoached and will never win anything significant than you don't like Miles.

Pretty frikin simple

Dude, do you know how rare of air you're breathing with 10 wins per year in the SEC? Clearly you don't.

2 things:

1. Expecting excellence and having the ability to get it are 2 different things. They luckily got their excellence in the timing of Sabans return.
2. Go look up mediocre cause LSU hasn't had that since Dinardo.

I don't hate Les, but sometimes the things that he does make no sense at all.

Why in hell did he bring Peveto back. The guy was a zero last time he was here and he was a zero after he left here. Now he's back and he's a zero again.

Same game plan for Saban exry year - hell, same game plan period every year. Between the fear of throwing down the middle of the field and the predictable play calling, we are limitng oursevles to running up the gut and throwing outside the hashes. It makes it easy for a good defensive team to shut us down. Every one of us knew that Saban would take away the run. Why did Les not know?
