Bottom line - Bama expects excellence and they don't accept mediocrity and will go through coaches until they find greatness.
And they lucked into Saban. If Dante Culpepper doesn't fall off a cliff, they're still looking.

Let me know when one of them wins a natty.
2007 was a long time ago. We can't keep dwelling on the past. We're clearly on an INcline right now so I'm happy with the progress we're making under Les, but we can't hang our hat on what happened 8 years ago. If he retires in 2020 and isn't able to beat Bama again, his legacy will be: won a natty early in his career but could never repeat that success, losing to Bama 10 straight times to end his career.

Do you think bama getting a rematch in 2012 is lucky?

There was literally no reason to bring Peveto back. Steele was a multi-time failure as a DC and a position coach, yet Les hired him to replace Chavis. Again, Les is not as good as someone of you like to believe, and I doubt had he taken over anything but the juggernaut LSU already was in 2005 that this team would be anything more than an annual 8-5 team on average.
All of this and then some.

Was t Jimbo's team embarrassed last year worst than LSU was last year. I also think he has a heisman trophy winner on his side. He will not make the playoffs this year.

most coaches don't win national championships
Most coaches don't play for them
We are kidding ourselves if we think Les wins here 100% because we are LSu and can win with anyone.
Its is very easy to frick up a coaching hire.
Look at lots and lots and lots of schools. There is no such thing as a sure thing.

Yeah, but that was after he won 29 consecutive games in a row including an undefeated BCS Championship season where he finally ended the SEC dominance in the national title game. He took over a 7-6 team and won the title within four years and has had three straight top 10 finishes.

List all NCAAF coaches more successful than Les Miles was at Oklahoma St. would be a more relevant question.

Keep holding on to these threads pal. He didnt build this program up to what it is, and he didn't make this state love LSU, and he didn't bring in the population that produces so much talent, but he did it ALL. Everything. LSU technically would be horrible without Miles. No other coach could have had LSU playing at this level.

Florida will be on the rise and he now has Clemson to deal with. I think he is going to have trouble winning the ACC in the future. My point is big stage and not having team ready to play. Not able to make adjustments in the game. During his run how many top ten teams did he play and didn't he have a last second win over the Notar Dame team we had a last second loss to. His recruting class have been ranked high, he has an easy conference to win.

So you weren't around during the 90's when all the instate talent left? Kevin Faulk is beloved because he stayed instate. Before Dinard got here every decent player left the state.
I was, what is your point? Dinardo, then Saban set the standard for recruiting instate talent. To Miles credit, he has kept it going and then some.
However, recruiting is only half of the equation. When entrusted with top ten talent year after year, Miles is the absolute definition of mediocrity on the coaching side of the equation.

dumb premise. put freeze, mullen, mcelwain, malzahn, or richt at lsu, and miles at any one of those schools. lsu would be better, and those schools would be worse.

Miles is lucky he's here. He may be better suited to driving Saban's Little Debbie delivery truck.
