New LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger threw touchdown passes to wide receivers James Wright and Jarrett Fobbs to highlight the Tigers' second closed scrimmage of spring drills on Saturday in Tiger Stadium.

"Zach Mettenberger is getting the offense and making some really nice throws," LSU coach Les Miles said. "He’s a very talented guy. I think the two veterans (Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee) still have an advantage with the understanding of the offense. I think after time Zach will compete with his advantages, but right now the experience of the veterans is showing."

Basically what he is saying is that Mett is an awesome talent but im going to start Jlee and Jefferson this year because they're seniors. Honestly i was expecting him to do so. But O well... here is to Jefferson having a breakout season.

Read much ?

He just stated once he learns the offense, JJ/JL's advantage disipates. It's all up to Mett - learn the O,run the O.

It's a reference to spring ball. Maybe this won't still be the case by the time of the season opener.

Are we running the same offense.

Thought we had a new OC. Maybe LM is running the O afterall.

Not just the playbook; think about the timing and chemistry developed with these players. He threw 2 Td's in practice. Let's not give him the heisman just yet

I really hope that this is the case, but I seriously doubt it. If nothing else, Miles is loyal to a fault. He will give Jefferson, and to a lesser extent Lee, every opportunity to start as QB.

In this mind, they've paid their dues and that alone entitles them to an advantage. Mett has 3 years to play and Miles is gonna make him wait his turn, unless something unforseen like injuries forces him to start Mett.

The thing that worries me is that unless the offense improves dramatically, Mett won't get any meaningful playing time because LSU will be forced to win close games down the stretch and the starting QB will stay in the game until the end.

It won't matter if we had Bert Jones, JJ still starts. Unless he gets hurt no one else will get a shot. Les would rather lose with jj than win with another QB. Every one forgets JL won 2 games for us last year!

As he should. He should not undermine any confidence that has developed in JJ and JL. We will need them during the season, so it's important to keep them engaged and feeling like they can compete. If Mett improves enough to be a clear(to the coaches) improvement, then he will start. As long as the competition is close, expect seniority to rule.

When will our drama queen fanbase figure out that they should stop trying to extract meaning from the things Miles says. He just opens his mouth and words come out. As wrong as the drama queens were last year, I'm surprised they still have the nerve to open their mouths.

Miles could start Drew Brees next year and your dumbass would still find something to bitch about.

I am hoping that this means that Miles is not going to just give Mett the keys to the castle...Miles wants the team to embrace Mett, not have him forced upon them. He wants the team to see the need to play him over the other two.

Lee and Jefferson have been through some wars with the rest of the LSU team and that means something amongst men.

To simply turn it all over to the new guy could have damaging effects on team chemistry IMHO, therefore Miles is trying to allow Mett to earn his spot under the sun.

Sidenote: If the above is not true, then I think we will likely seen proven before our very eyes that Miles has been running the offense all along. If Krag is installing a new offense and JJ, Lee and Mett should have started on near equal footing (with the exception of terms that have carried over within the system). I am willing to bet that the offense will not be drastically different this year than last from a playbook and calling sense.

JJ still has the naked pics, if Mett were up for a Heisman he would not start over Miles stepson.

Yeah, especially because that would get us on probation.

exactly what he is saying, he will make us sit through another year of this BS like he did with the wasted year of the two DC's BS and the underachieving years of Crowton.
