I don't think it matters one way or another but I probably wouldnt' have said it. Say something like "we would like them to stay but if they feel they are better off somewhere else then good luck and we will move on" I woudnt have said to hell with em.

With that being said, I think sometimes the drink at these bashes starts talking because a lot of Les's comments have come at these functions. I understand that these are celebrations or whatever but you have to remember every day that everything all of us say is recorded. You dont want to p-off a guy who left the state and p-off his high school coach and maybe one day this kid is back in the state coaching and tells his players not to go there because he's upset about a coach saying to hell with him. Not the worst thing in the world, probably just needed to tone it down just a tad. One thing about Leslie, he has some great sound bytes, this "bash" is always entertaining.

The problem these days is nothing can be done off the record anymore. Sound bites from a Bayou Bash recruiting party are always made in jest and to pump up the crowd that attends. Nothing more, nothing less.

Imagine the stories if media reported all the locker room talk before and after a game.

Regarding Gunner Kiel...

When he enrolled at Notre Dame in January 2012

quote:

"There's a point in time where young people make a variety of decisions, and for a variety of reasons," Miles said the day Kiel enrolled at Notre Dame. "The only thing I can tell you is there is a guy in the Midwest who felt staying close to home was the right thing."

"There's a guy in any number of places where the decision comes down to staying close to family or representing a stadium or team nearby," he said. "If that's the case, we need to have people who are going to be happier in Louisiana."

At the Recruiting Bash in February 2012

quote:

"There was a gentleman from Indiana that thought about coming to the Bayou state," Miles said. "He did not necessarily have the chest and the ability to lead a program, so you know," he added to applause.

Gunner Kiel's Comments in 2014

quote:

"When I called him and told him I wasn't coming, I knew he was going to be angry," Kiel told Sports Illustrated. "I know coach Miles. I have nothing but respect for him. I can't get mad about that. I honestly probably would've done the same thing if a young, dumb kid was going to come to my school and he backed out that day and ended up at another school."

Maybe nobody. Maybe the recruits themselves who deserve zero backlash for their decision, much less from someone of Les's stature. Maybe it will reinforce the opinions of those La high school coaches who have steered their kids away from Les in the past.

I don't know and neither does Les.

Better question is what good does he do by doing that? Whipping up some excitement for the fans who take a day off of work to go to a recruiting bash? Seems like a small reward for an unknown risk.

The comments were meant to get an emotional response from the crowd.

What makes it so insane is that he proceeded to show highlights of this years class, with many of them from other states.

He also has a son who most likely will play baseball out of state.
His daughter left Louisiana to progress as a top rated swimmer.
He left Ohio for Michigan.

I'm smart enough to know he was playing up to the crowd....but somewhere down the line a recruit and his parents will not figure that out.

Once again, he could have made his life a lot easier by not saying it.

PS - Going 8-5 this year had him thinking "I have to fire these people up".

Do you really care if Gerald Willis or Speedy Noil gets offended by Les stating that we'll be just fine without them?

They play for conference rivals. To hell with them.

Les Miles to Shea Patterson and his parents: "We really think Shea is a quality man and want him to represent our program.

Shea Patterson's dad: "Well Les, he is taking a visit to Ole Miss next week. If he is impressed, will you be thinking To Hell with Him?"

How do you not get that.

No I don't care, but it's just wrong. Clearly wrong. Just admit you don't care about right and wrong.

And why did you say that he stated "we will be just fine without them?" Instead of what he actually said? We both know why.

I think it is pretty well understood that any coach no longer pays heed to a player once he signs to a division rival.

I agree with you.

BUT KEEP YOUR frickING MOUTH SHUT. Giving a woody to a couple hundred lunatics is not worth 1 single repercussion down the line.

Risk/Reward Management 101.

It's really a shame how prudish people have become. There's nothing wrong with what he said in regards to players going out of state.

does Louisiana schools of lsu and its football programs caliber offering his kids scholarships?
He didnt say stay in la or frick you.
he didnt say take a lesser offer because its la or frick you.
he didnt say la or die.

Not sure why his kids going somewhere else when his son isnt being offered and la has no swimming programs worth a damn are being put out like Hes contradicting himself

And he never said you couldnt be impressed with other schools so those parents should be applauded for being retarded and raising a d1 athlete

Not surprising that uway and league champs are both in this thread trashing on miles.
Yall both try to act so wholesome and literal about things. Is it right for both of you to have so much hate for a guy like yall do for les?

It's got to be a little less surprising than you defending Miles no matter what he says or does.

Does it ever get tiring with all that hate you have for the most successful coach in school history? Really sounds like a burden if you can't enjoy anything without looking for more reasons to hate.
