Kiper says he thinks Carolina grabs Fournette at 8, but he said if it were his call no rb would be drafted in the first round. He just doesn't see the value in it.

This is the current line of thinking held by many draft experts right now.

I remember when Kiper lost his mind and said Bobby Wagner was a terrible pick to the Seahawks. I also remember him saying that Jamarcus was the next Elway. If Kiper was really that badass at draft scouting I promise you an NFL team would have picked him up. Leonard is the best talent in this draft.

A 1st round RB could have value in the right situation (see Elliot to Dallas). But without many good pieces around the RB, a RB by himself is not going to be a game changer like a QB, or pass-rusher, or even a lock-down DB. Hell, just look at the 12 playoff teams this year. Only one started a RB who was taken in the 1st round (Dallas).

You can find RBs past the 1st round who are MORE than good enough to help you win a championship. I tend to agree with Kiper

In most cases teams at the top of the draft do not have an O line worth a dang. Without an O line it doesn't matter how good a back you are, your screwed. Elliot is a very good if not great back, but he is running behind one helleva line.

its flawed logic, there just haven't really been many elite RB prospects worthy of such a high pick. If a guy is talented enough, you can still run an offense through him as elliot showed.

Best fit for Leonard is in Oakland however there is no way he drops that far.

Could you list the first round, we have more than one first rounder besides Fournette.

The smart move would be to pick him because he really is a rare talent.........but IF the line is not in place to protect him. Slow roll him for a yr or two until the OL is in place. This can not a business decision for today, it is for the longer haul. In merchandise alone, it would be a break even endeavor even if he was used sparingly.

In other words... the situation worked out in this scenario. I think it all comes down to team needs/wants. That being said...a 3rd rd or later RB can run wild behind that line with some fall off. But, the fall off is not enough to warrant a 1st rd pick. IMO RB's in the 1st round are/should be luxury picks.
