Played in a golf tourny years ago and he was on the 17th tee box, he would hit your drive if you wanted him to. He can crush the ball.

So, you work in ruston?
I graduated with his eldest son, I'm pretty sure he was much more interested in hunting than sport, but he could definitely catch.
Berts daughter was a very good track athlete. All around a very nice family and very personable. I just wish his remembering the old days of playing on Mcdonalds crap turf didn't effect his disdain for all turf, which is why Ruston doesn't have turf even though it is badly needed.

FWIW Bert Jones never started a game at LSU.

Yes,he did! He started most games. Split time his first yr with Paul Lyons.Mac used 2 QB system to change tempo of game.
Was NFL MVP in '77. Neck injury cut short a HOF career.

Cool. Loved his work when he did color commentary for TigerVision.

Blasphemy to even think such a thing...
Having a QB the last few years of Bert's caliber and LSU would have put up stratospheric numbers.

My Bert Jones story. We played high school ball against each other two years in the late 60's. In football, he was not even 1st team all-district, was 2nd team. Guy named Allan at Neville was 1st team . Allan played at Northeast, Bert at LSU. We guarded each other in basketball two years. We played baseball against each other also, he at Ruston ,me at Bastrop. He was a nice guy in H.S. ,would talk during a basketball game, normal stuff, not the crap like in the pro's. 20 years later, when I left the Senate and had to move to Tupelo,Ms, we all supported Tommy Cassanova for the Senate in North La. next to my district. We tried to get Bert to run, he would not. Cassanova ran, won, and did good his term. Bert supported Tommy, is a good man.

Went to his wedding. The reception was in an old, tiny hotel in Opelousas. He married a state senator's daughter. Both are very nice people. (There were several NFL players and coaches there, but the only one I remember talking to was Ted Marchibroda, the head coach of the Colts.)

The fact that about four of y'all didn't think that statement was in jest due to the ridiculousness of it is absolutely pathetic.

No DOUBT Burt was a great TIGER. But there's no way he would have put up the numbers the way he did in today's SEC

Beachdude-- Do you remember what Senator it was whose daughter married Bert? Thanks. I served 80-88 and might have known him.

Steven Dupuis of Opelousas. I think he may have still been in the legislature as late as 1980, but am not sure. His daughter, Jones' wife, is Danielle.
