He apparently is having an amazing spring and is understanding the playbook and the offense better than he did last year.

Any thoughts?

You must be reading DD. Haven't seen it anywhere else.

I've heard it said by many that as a QB, the most improvement is made during your 2nd full slate of spring practices.

Our Oline last year apparently had a great spring and fall. It made our coach proclaim it was the best he ever had.

Think I'll wait to see how it unfolds during the season.

I hope this is ture, but its no secret DD has been a tad biased towards JJ since he has been here.
so I think Ill wait and make that conclusion myself.
Im going to scrimmmage next sat and spring game, so as I said wait and see for myself.

Almost all Freshmen and Soph. QB's suck. Seriously. In college ball played at the SEC level it is very rare to have a guy reach his full potential until his Junior and Senior year. JJ will be fine, this should actually be his first year to have to start. That was the plan before RP got into trouble and then people wouldn't be so critical.

I agree, I think that he just needed some time to develop. Let's remember that he is also young for being a junior (19?).

Actually, this would have been his first year as the 2nd string. It would be Lee's first year as starter. Then again, if RP had not been kicked off, I'm not so sure he would have stuck around for his senior season anyway.

I'm glad that he's progressing. We will need him to be on top of his game if we are to make a run for the championship this year. I hope that he continues to shine and if he does well, he be rewarded eventually by the NFL gods.

You can't say for sure Lee would have won the job.

It's A LOT easier to look good in the "No Pressure" atmosphere of practice. Let's see what happens when the lights come on and he's got S.E.C. defensive lineman/LB's in his face. Didn't JL always look great at practice? I want to see JJ look "Amazing" in S.E.C. games......

He looked pretty good against Auburn, Alabama before he went down and Arkansas at times. While I agree he HAS to show it on a consistent basis, I think the tools are there for him to be one of the top QBs in the league next year.

BTW, if JJ does light it up this fall there's some posters on this board that will have a healthy dose of crow to eat. Yeah, I'm looking at you Tigerfan5555.

Hopefully, they have worked with him on a timer. Just fixing that would go a long way.

Billy Gonzales and Steve Ensminger may be the greatest additions to a coaching staff that we've had in the last decade.

Hopefully he is bigger and stronger this season and ready to pay the price of stepping up and delivering a throw while getting smashed by the pass rush. Last year he got hurt in big games a lot and became less effective for a few plays after some big hits
