Les miles does not deserve to be mentioned with Johnny Jones. Miles' last 5 years were still respectable. There is nothing respectable about the lsu basketball program right now.

No, he does. They're both notorious underachievers.

I think now we (LSU) only consider what's the best exit strategy. Immediately and try and salvage something of the season? or let the season play out?
i would let it play out, because alleva would probably hire whoever is named interim

This the dilemma we're in. An incompetent AD leading the search to replace an unsuccessful coach. if the Ad were competent in the first place, we wouldn't be in this situation.

If they are going to go cheap, might want to take a look at the one at LSUA. Here's what happened last night.

LSUA dominates No. 8 Wiley
LaMar Gafford , lgafford@thetowntalk.com 1/7/2017

The highly-billed matchup between No. 1 LSU of Alexandria and No. 8 Wiley appeared to live up to the hype early Friday.

Then, the Generals handled business.

A 33-7 run to close the first half was the groove that LSUA needed as it notched a 97-62 win for its 30th straight victory in The Fort.

"It's a nice way to start the new year," Generals coach Larry Cordaro said. "Even in the first half after being down by a few points, our guys responded and had a 16-point lead at halftime."
LSUA trailed 21-13 with 11:56 left in the first half, but seized control after its defense clamped down on the Wildcats offense and crashing the offensive glass.

The Generals scored 22 second chance points, while holding Wiley to 35.1 percent shooting in the final 32 minutes of the game.

"I told them that we were down 16 (at halftime) and let's come out with that mentality," Cordaro said. "We reached our goal of holding under 65 points. I'm proud of our defensive effort."
Off of the bench, junior forward Brandon Moss scored 24 points, while Jordin Williams and (15 points) and Brian Sylvester (10 points) reached double figures.

"When you have the Generals that can come in off of the bench (playing well), we're very deep," Cordaro said. "I think we just wear on teams and it showed in the second half. Wiley just ran out of gas."

Wiley struggled as senior forward and three-time All-RRAC recipient George Page, a native of Winnfield, was held to nine points and no rebounds.

Ricardo Artis has 16 points and 11 rebounds, but the Wildcats shot 38.5 percent in the second half as LSUA cruised to a victory on its newly renovated floor.

"It was special for us to open up the purple A and to come out with a win against a Top 10 ball club," Cordaro said. "We're just going to continue working and continue doing what we do and that's playing extremely hard."

If the season continues as is he will be fired. Just a matter of when.

I think they'll give him to the end of the year.

Jj is lucky no one at lsu gives a shite about hoops. Otherwise he would have been canned already.

This.....the he's won more in his first four years than any other LSU coach in history is such a hollow and baseless factoid that anyone would ever think to type it IMHO renders their credibility immediately void.

Just watch....defense is optional and always has been. Accountability is non-existent and attempts at demanding it are futile at this point so damaged is the program in that respect.

Yeah, every now and then the kids will decide to bust it and we see what maybe it could be if only....and I've come to the sad conclusion that's that's as good as were ever going to get under CJJ.

agree that Miles is not in the category as Jones, but he ran the same offense year after year and survived on talent.

So does Saban. We have seen saban without talent advantages. Losing to uab and ulm with sec talent.
Saban and bama are on an unprecedented run because of talent.
If you have a front 4 that can push the other team's oline 2 yards behind the los om every play, the other head coaches arent thinking,"why didnt i think of that? "

This notion that saban made this hige philosophical change isnt true. He still runs a prostyle offense with some spread concepts.

Also, lsu's offense chnaged with each oc. We have not been running the same offense during miles' entire tenure.

But yes miles was stuck in his ways.

Well youre just stupid.

Please explain how the best tenure in lsu history is underachieving?
Only people that have no clue about cfb would deem miles tenure as underachieving.

Regardless of your opinion, miles had the best tenure in lsu history and we are a football school.
Jones hasnt come close to that.
But please continue to show your lsu history ignorance.

So, we fired an overachieving coach?

BTW, do "expectations" factor in to assessing how well a coach does? Or is it all just compared to history past? And if we're a "football school" why are you even comparing JJ to Les?

I am very happy tonight because I know that coach Jones will be fired after the end of this season. No way that the coach will be retained after this shiteshow season.

Looking forward to spending my money and time on baseball season.

Please don't compare Johnny Jones to Les Miles.

Les Miles consistently won at a pretty high level. Should he have one more with the talent we had? Yes. But JJ is deplorable and has done nothing but suck since day 1.

I'm not discounting Miles' championship. However, his last 5 years were disappointing and underachieving. It's hard to ignore the similarities between Miles and Jones' shortcomings. They have more in common than one might like to admit.
