You may let the hire stay on with his current school for their bowl (if he and they want), but for recruiting purposes you don't want to be coachless for all of December and half of January.

Exactly. Nebraska let Bo stay on to coach the BCSNCG, but granted, that's not just another bowl game. But I can see a hire not waiting til after the bowl season.

A "farewell tour" for a man his age would be humiliating.

Look what Michigan did with Harbaugh. LSU has funds to attract an elite coach if we really are serious about wanting to be the premiere program in the country.

Harbaugh is a former player at Michigan. Michigan didn't just go pluck an elite level NFL coach.

Not to mention that he was clearly gone from SF. Jimbo is the king at FSU. It will be extremely difficult to lure him away.

I am not sure I would want to allow CLM to stick around for another year while a "coach in waiting" is found. What happens if the coach in waiting changes his mind because the school decides to pay what he wants or for other reasons. Imo, this seams way too risky. It would seem the potential hire would need to be someone who is currenly not coaching an is not tied down contractually in order to mitigate the risk. Or, maybe the new hire is currently on the LSU coaching staff and will replace miles at fraction of the cost to help offset the buyout.

Who said anything about a coach in waiting?

Why do you think the other SEC schools want him around for another year? Did you not see that fiasco yesterday?

I can tell you I have a buddy who is involved in the Ole Miss program and he told me, while chuckling two yrs ago, that he hopes Miles stays at LSU forever for precisely this reason.

By no means should LSU just go through the motions for a year and a half to make Les feel "respected" by other fan bases.

Man. You want to talk about killing two recruiting yrs...just let him "coach" out his last yr. Where's the logic in this? Heck, Tulane would out recruit LSU if this happens.

I thought this would hurt a lot less. I want a new coach, but this is just sad to me.

In a perfect world, LSU could go ahead and hire the new HC as coach in waiting and let Miles make one last run next year. I'd like to see him make a goodbye tour since so many other SEC fan bases like and respect him. I'd be for it as long as he understood there would be no tampering with the new OC/Future HC

What a stupid idiotic fricking idea. It's people like you and your feel good mentality that has caused this program to decline to the state that it's in right now.

The Gruden thing, I mean it's funny and sad people bring up his name.

It's been like 10 years since he coached...

It's clear he is done coaching

I wouldn't want a coach that hasn't recruited or coached in a number of years...that's a train wreck experience waiting to happen.

so just stop with that none sense...6 million at ESPN, he loves his gig there...

I agree. Gruden loves the sound of own voice too much to give up MNF.

I honestly hope that the powers that be and Les come to terms with a retirement announcement (not firing) and an honoring at the game next week as a finale. He does deserve a true Tiger goodbye and send off, and I hope he gets one this Saturday.

taf guys were probably just tossing around names of well known coaches. not sure how serious they were considering him. pretty obvious jimbo is their main guy.

If Les is a good boy then he will retire and make this easy for him. Les shouldn't want this to be ugly. LSU will be fine without him
