Jim Hawthorne?

Jim's been behind the mike since 1983. Old timers like myself remember John Ferguson.

John Ferguson is the only "true voice of the Tigers". Hawthorne is a poorly made imitation.

I like Jim Hawthorne, He is the voice of the tigers to me, but i do remember Ferguson, he was my dads voice of the tigers, to each his own, in my dads days u didnt get many Tv Broadcasts, so people really depended on furguson to tell it like it was, and he did that better than Hawthorne

for me, there is nothing like a saturday night in early october, out in the woods, cooking squirrels, a cool north breeze blowing, standing by the camp fire, having a drink or 18, no better sound than Jim hawthorne describing a TD against Florida, damn, thats what the fall is about to me

yep, my fondest memories as a kid was sitting around the hunting camp with my dad listening to Hawthorne call the game on the radio. Tigers Win! Tigers Win!!!!!!

One thing I remember about Ferguson that I noticed when he did games that were also on TV - If you listened to the radio while you watched TV, his description always lagged a little bit. This as not because of any technical electronic delay (back then radio was slightly ahead of TV), it was that he was deliberately doing it to get the call right. Hawthorn should use this technique, he has to correct himself too damn much.

Also agree on Hawthorn's negativity.

sucks...horribly. And, he has for a minimum of 5 years, maybe more. He may have been good back in the day, but he is horrible now. If I can't watch a game, I'd rather hit refresh on a gamechannel site at espn or yahoo than listen to that idiot spew garbage. And, that goes for any sport that he's calling.

Thanks, I had forgotton about Walter Hill. Ferguson and Hill were the best.
