I haven't seen it mentioned that JR is currently the youngest starting QB in the NFL. Zee and others who think JR sucks now, and will suck in the future are retarded.

Picking and choosing stats from only BCS conferences is a cop out.

No it's not. It's a legitimate means of filtering out the MAC and C-USA stat monsters, and a valid basis for apples-to-apples comparisons. However, like any method, it has limitations, which are clearly revealed when the person says "Highest rated BCS quarterback".

It is similar to saying, "Highest rated NFC QB", or "Highest rated AFC South QB." Why are you having problems with this?

First, thanks for your service, Merry Christmas and happy New Year! Best wishes to all of y'all over there.

I don't think anybody really cares who the best rated QB is in the AFC South. It is about overall regardless of which division and some divisions are just terrible, but I don't hear anybody qualifying a QB's top rating because of the lesser quality of opponents.

I guess the Mountain West is just the worst conference so the QB's of BYU, Utah, TCU, etc just pad stats on ONLY bad competition yet they beat the heck out of the Pac-10 this year.

Beck had a better QB rating the Russell and no I don't disqualify him since he didn't play in a BCS conference. Also, Tebow had a better rating too. Sure he didn't start, but look at it from a pure stats standpoint, which the JR lovers do, you can't conveniently dismiss certain players to make JR appear to be the best QB in '06. Stats wise that is not supported on any level unless you think college football is just 6 conferences.

My point being, saying JR was without a shadow of a doubt the best QB in '06 is just a subjective take and is very debatable. The Troy Smith's, Quinn, Beck lovers can make a case for their boys too. Fun debate, but not a fact.

gawd damn you are one dumb SOB. wtf compare stats of someone who attempted 33 passes(TT) to a starting QB(JR).

with your mindset, RP was a better qb than TT in 07' then.

Dude, you obviously don't understand the slice of sarcasm I'm using about the way stats are thrown out by everybody to prove their point.

DP40, I think that's where you're having the problem - YOU don't care who the best rated QB in the AFC south is. Defensive Coordinators in the AFC South do, as do the DCs in the AFC playoff bound teams who have to face him. It's a filter. You want to consider all the QBs from the Big Sky conference and Patriot conference against what the big boys in the BCS conferences do, that's your prerogative. However, you can't slam someone for making that distinction, and pointing it out, particularly if it's true - JR was the highest rated QB from a BCS conference in 2006. It was valid for him to be drafted on that basis (other than his obvious, objective physical characteristics and abilities) even though, you, had you been an NFL GM could have selected a player (a QB even) from a non-BCS school and had other justifications for it.

Comparing players in BCS conferences to other players at their position in other BCS conferences is a very fair, transparent, and relatively unbiased way to compare players. It has limitations. It is not the only way to compare them.

So he doesn't suck but he's never gonna be any good. Would you say mediocre would be a good adjective?

To say that JR was the best QB in '06 without question is just void of any reason. Where are you facts to support that claim?

His stats are as good as any put up by a BCS conference QB in the modern era. He also played against the hardest schedule I've ever seen with 4 games on the road against top 10 teams.

232/342 67.8% 3129 yds 9.1 ypa 28:8

is really fricking good against any schedule. Against 06 LSU's schedule its outstanding.

SFP, it doesn't matter BCS or not. Picking and choosing stats from only BCS conferences is a cop out. I guess Boise is just a lousy team that pads stats ONLY against bad opponents.

So Timmy Chang is the second best college QB ever? Behind Colt Brennan

JR is gonna have to show me more than that. The great rating against Houston is an anomoly. They had horrible practices all week and absolutely did not show up for the game. Not to mention their defense is not their strong suit..especially pass defense. The other ratings of 85.7 and 98.9 are not exactly spectacular.

Im rooting for JR...but he will need alot better supporting cast to become even a very good QB. But nobody has EVER had a better arm than this guy...NOBODY. Not Elway..not Marino..not Favre...not Jeff George...not Daryl Lamonica....NOBODY.

Now let's hope Oakland gets some playmakers in there...

Please don't compare Brooks to Russell. Russell actually cares about the games unlike Brooks did. Brooks would throw a big int and then go to the bench, drink a cup of water, and smile. He was worthless.
