BTW,

quote:

In his first 15 NFL starts, Russell has completed 54.8 percent of his passes for 2499 yards, 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Those numbers are far from spectacular, but only two of the previous 15 quarterbacks taken No. 1 overall since the start of the common draft in 1967 — Michael Vick and Carson Palmer — have a higher passer in their first 15 starts than Russell's 77.0.

He has fared better than future Super Bowl champions like Terry Bradshaw, Jim Plunkett, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning.

remember, the raiders have a shitty OL and no WRs. some solid RBs and 1 decent TE is all that they have

And he really just got garbage time in 2007 (and some of that was situational and some was self-inflicted on the hold-out), so this is, for all practical purposes, his rookie year.

His interceptions have trickled up, overall, but now that his usual accuracy (something that was overlooked by even some Tiger fans while he was here) has come back up, that's the piece that will allow an OC to open up the gameplan. However, as you suggest, Oakland has some more work in the draft/free agency to further build the team.

They need improvement on defense, WR and OL, and they need depth almost everywhere, (though they may be okay for another year or so at QB and RB).

yep

Yesterday was the 16th game he has started in his career, so he finally has a full season under his belt.

Here are his stats from the first 16 games he has started:

221 of 399, (55.4%), 2,647 yards, 14 TDs, 9 INTs, QB Rating of 78.2

Here is how JaMarcus compared to some other QB's selected #1 overall after their 1st 16 games starting

quote:

Peyton Manning: - 22 years old

326 of 575, (56.7%), 3,739 yards, 26 TDs, 28 INTs, QB Rating of 71.2

quote:

Eli Manning: - 24 years old

248 of 492, (50.4%), 3,079 yards, 21 TDs, 18 INTs, QB Rating of 69.2

quote:

Carson Palmer: - almost 26 years of age

332 of 529, (62.7%), 3,683 yards, 26 TDs, 20 INTs, QB Rating of 84.0

quote:

Michael Vick: - 22 years of age

230 of 423, (54.4%), 2,904 yards, 16 TDs, 8 INTs, QB Rating of 80.7

quote:

Troy Aikman: - 24 years of age

243 of 442, (54.9%), 2,704 yards, 12 TDs, 25 INTs, QB Rating of 58.8

quote:

John Elway: - 24 years of age

179 of 365, (49.0%), 2,282 yards, 10 TDs, 19 INTs, QB Rating of 56.4

quote:

Drew Bledsoe: - 22 years old

294 of 556, (52.8%), 3,564 yards, 20 TDs, 19 INTs, QB Rating of 70.6

quote:

Jim Plunkett: - 24 years of age

179 of 374, (47.9%), 2,470 yards, 20 TDs, 17 INTs, QB Rating of 68.5

quote:

Terry Bradshaw: - 23 years of age

185 of 380, (48.7%), 2,483 yards, 7 TDs, 28 INTs, QB Rating of 45.3

He's only throwing the ball 25 times per game, which is what I expect from a team trying to bring a young QB along. I am curious to see his progression as he moves into the 30 passes/game territory. I think he's moving in the right direction in all areas.

True. Looking at yardage is somewhat deceiving since some of those other QBs played in offense that threw the ball a lot more

Here is a fair comparison:

JaMarcus:

Yards Per Attempt: 6.6

Compare that to those other QBs

quote:

Peyton Manning:

Yards Per Attempt: 6.5

quote:

Eli Manning:

Yards Per Attempt: 6.3

quote:

Carson Palmer

Yards Per Attempt: 6.9

quote:

Michael Vick:

Yards Per Attempt: 6.9

quote:

Troy Aikman:

Yards Per Attempt: 6.1

quote:

John Elway:

Yards Per Attempt: 6.3

quote:

Drew Bledsoe:

Yards Per Attempt: 6.4

quote:

Jim Plunkett:

Yards Per Attempt: 6.6

quote:

Terry Bradshaw:

Yards Per Attempt: 6.5

To all the idiots who worship at the alter of JR's jockstrap:

To say that JR was the best QB in '06 without question is just void of any reason. Where are you facts to support that claim?
I threw out 3 guys just to poke some fun at those who were ripping Zee and the Smith/Quinn lovers. The point of JR being the best QB in '06 is just stupid especially in the context of the post. Why even say such a subjective thing? Pointless!

Give facts to back such a stupid claim. By yards, or TD's, or completion %, or QB rating, or All-American teams, or wins, or championships, JR was absolutely not the best QB in '06. Saying so is just pure hyperbole. Who was the best is in fact debatable, but save for another thread.

JR finished this year strong is a nice little sniff of his jock, but let's save the sniffing for when he actually does something worth sniffing over. 3 good games = wow.

That is all JR jock sniffers. You can now return to worshipping at the alter of JR's jock!

Here are the facts you wanted from 06':
JR 67.8% 3129yds 28td/8int 167.0 rating

Brohm 63.6% 3049yds 16td/5int 159.1

Ryan 61.6% 2939yds 15td/10int 126.7

surely the best at anything is debatable, but to list Brohm and Matt Ryan as having a better 06' than JR is a frickin' joke. Beck played in the MWC.

look at the passing stats

JR = highest rated BCS QB

the only QB with better stats really was colt brennan, and not only did he play in a shite conference, he played in a pure passing offense

JR was the highest-rated BCS QB in 2006

he also did this against the hardest schedule in CFB that year

SFP, it doesn't matter BCS or not. Picking and choosing stats from only BCS conferences is a cop out. I guess Boise is just a lousy team that pads stats ONLY against bad opponents.

He also had probably the most talented receivers too. (debatable)

He may have had the best talent around him than any other LSU QB (again debatable).

That is all jock sniffers. Have a nice day!

Excellent finish for JR! I just hate that I did not get to see any of those games. He struggled in the only games I got to see this season.

I know they had injuries, but the Raiders MUST get some help at WR. A little OL help would be nice, too.
