His problem at LSU is that LSU has a stable of big receivers waiting their turn to play. All things being equal, recruits get more practice time and more chances to develop than walk ons. There is this basic assumption that walk ons will never be more than practice players that they have to overcome.

I don't think this guy will be treated like the average walk-on. Just a thought.

Jalen was in our district in high school, he played for Westminster. I played against him in football, basketball, and baseball. Dude was a beast in football, considering it was 1-A football. He was one of the best athletes I've seen, very good basketball player. He threw against us my senior year and we beat them 3-0 at home. Red Sox, Bluejays, and Diamondbacks scouts were all there and we knocked him off in the third inning. The only reason he got drafted was because his coach was Barry Manuel, who threw for LSU back in the day. He had connections that got him in strictly based on potential. Big guy, tall, threw about 91 mph but couldn't hit his spots. Other than that, I thought he would excel in football other than anything. Hope he gets a shot to get some playing time for us this year!

because he's already played Professional baseball with the Red Sox

He signed a MLB contract when he was 18 eliminating from playing as an amateur or college athlete (in BB)

same reason why Josh Booty and Jamie Howard couldn't play baseball at LSU

No you dense idiot. You think if Drew Brees "walked on" at LSU you think he could play?

Isn't there an age restriction on this site?

Complaining about retarded one liners being run into the ground while using the most retarded run in the ground one liner. Legit.

False.

This is why he got drafted.

Think most have the wrong conception of a walk-on - roster limited to 105, unlike the "old" days or other NCAA divisions. IMO, any youngster that can make the 105 in Tigerland can play & will get a solid opportunity. Yes, most never dress or travel, but they get the shot they wanted vs. going D-II or the III and actually playing/starting. Many will move on & are thankful & satisfied knowing they tried rather always wondering, "what if". These guys are an integral part of preparing the team for Sat. Good luck to each & every one of them on the tough road they have chosen.

How many walk ons have gotten tplaying time on, not just special teams, in recent history.
We have had a few good special teams walk ons, but I just don't remember any recently on offense or defense

Didn't JD Moore walk on originally?

ETA: I posted before I read the rest of the page, see this was answered.
