Considering he's pretty much been hurt most of his career it's the best option for him.
His time on the court would be less than last year.

I've heard he has somewhere in mind, but we are not sure who that school is.

“Jalen Courtney has asked for and been granted a release from LSU,” said Coach Jones. “We certainly wish him well in his future endeavors.”

It's a good sign that we are processing kids to make room instead of just having empty defections like the last 2 coaches

"Player XXX has asked for and been granted a release from LSU,” said Coach XXX. “We certainly wish him well in his future endeavors.”

I bet Kent Lowe and every other SID in America have that statement locked and loaded on their computer somewhere...just needing to plug in the proper names.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for Jalen. He seemed to have a knack for scoring as a freshman in extremely limited time, but I think everyone can see, based on who we have, who is coming in, and where he can play, that he would not see much court time.

I hope he gets some court time at his next stop and becomes Magnum Rolle 2.0.

I wish he was sticking around in some capacity, undergrad assistant or something like that.

Good luck to him in the future. Maybe playing under another HC will give him good perspective if he really does want to get into coaching, as has been rumored.

I was hoping he could stay in some capacity as well, but I am hoping it works out for both parties. Courtney should be able to find a program where he can play in his final season. He wouldn't have seen the court much, if any, at LSU.

I was going to say this actually.

it's tough, but it's better for LSU overall, if we have to let kids go to make room for better talent

Every one of our scholarship players are at least SEC caliber, not that SEC is really elite when it comes to basketball. We had non SEC caliber players in a crap league. When is the last time we could say that, the final 4 team, not with Ben Voogd on the roster?

Everyone remembers the Final Four team, but they were not a deep group of players.

The main players:
1 Darrel Mitchell
1 Ben Voodg
2 Garrett Temple
3 Tasmin Mitchell
4 Tyrus Thomas
4 Darnell Lazare
5 Glen Davis
5 Magnum Rolle

Other players:
Tack Minor
David Fleshman
Chris Johnson
Alex Farrer
Kentrell Gransberry

There were only 8 players who really played. Magnum Rolle never really panned out. Lazare was a role player at best. Voogd was out of place completely. The others didn't get much of a chance, but were not SEC caliber players.

Chris Johnson was only a freshman. He started his junior year in 2009 but he didn't play much till then.

The 2006 Final Four run was basically pulled off by 5 players. 5 star players who were great, but 5 players nonetheless.

I don't remember him ever actually being on LSU's roster.

Lazare was my hope for what Courtney would turn into.

Gransberry never made it past November and Tack was suspended that year of the final 4. Can't count either of them
