Yep. But a lot of people thought it was because his number was up with theirs on the OF wall at the Old Box.

Should be on the wall in the new box as well. What ever happened to the number that was on the wall at the old box?

There are no numbers on the wall at the new box. They're up above the suits under the grandstand roof.

No clue who has that now.

You are getting majorly downvoted on this, but I will stand up for your stance. I really am not into the jersey number thing either and I also would have had to think about it for a few moments before I could tell you that Bregman wore #8. Uniform numbers just isn't a "thing" for me.

As for LSU baseball....the only ones that stand out are Pontiff #31 and Bertman #15. I couldn't tell you what numbers Todd Walker, Eddy Furniss, or any of the greats wore and I have watched a LOT of LSU baseball over the last 30 years.

Not a bad idea. Football seems to have two number traditions #18 & #7. Why not let baseball have a number tradition.

I'm not a fan of the number traditions in this sense: I dont like that it's something the teams actively promote. I'd rather it stay internal. Doesn't bother me that the players do it. Bothers me when fans think it's relevant.

Jake Fraley to Wear Number 8
Last year almost presented a dilemma for LSU.

Had Bregman won the Golden Spikes Award, would LSU have retired #8?

When Ben McDonald's number was officially retired, one of the criteria used to make his number eligible for retirement was he had won the Golden Spikes Award (1989) which is considered the highest award given to a college baseball player.

My only regret is Chinea didn't return to wear the number 8.
