While true, perhaps the offensive coaches see something in Stevens that they're not getting from the other guys. Sometimes guys take it for granted that they're the 'next man up' instead of working to earn it.

Put a hungry freshman in the mix, and a couple of things could happen. Either:

a) the older guys get motivated to keep the talented freshman out of the lineup, which means we have greater depth at WR as a result; or

b) Stevens passes them up and we still have the playmaker we want at that position.

If he was needed at safety, he'd still be at safety, but, as has been pointed out by other posters, we have several guys ready to go at safety, where we only need two on the field at a time.

We're gonna need 3 receivers on most downs, so we need more WRs in Canada's system.
